"Myarf!" The wraith sat down on it's haunches, looking up at KC. This was the one to follow, for now. Yes. The wraith tilted it's head at KC, looking at him with it's blood-red eyes. Captain KCI kicked the wraith aside, but not too hard, and headed to the first level of the command center. There's some debris, and the roof collapsed some, but the place is still fairly intact. I pushed open the door, or what's left of it, and headed into what used to be the base. Everything is on fire. This is going to be a long battle. Colonel Christa Utzinger"I have 100 men AND women. Our supplies are running low since we just left with what we had. And I know the area fairly well since, you know, we are surrounded by plains. A couple small hills, but nothing we can't handle. "I also cleared the area around the main road. I killed every Federation soldier I came across. Heh, there was this one group that tried to give up. One thing you will learn from fighting these bastards is that they never surrender." That and I want to kill all of them. When they bombarded Venak and then occupied it, they killed my family. Colonel Nakhi WelhanThe GK-III stopped in the middle of the base. The huge turret turned toward New Gracaria. The AI is going to test the guns and make sure they are working. Plus it will let us put a huge round on the enemy. The first cannon fired and the ground shook violently. The tank rolled back some. I know that the whole city had to feel that. It fired another shell, rolled back into place, and then fired the third one. It was loud as hell, but not deafening. The rest of my soldiers got the GK-IIs and Is started, loaded weapons and ammo into the troop trucks and AIFVs, and rolled out from the base. I am going to stay with the GK-III just in case the Aatuylvans try to mess with it. Manifold Traffic Control replied, "Good riddance indeed. Although it looks like we were in the process of attempting to capture it when you came in. Either way, it's gone. If the missing ship was anything we're familiar with, then we can probably find it for you. If it's one of ours, then just give us the 5 or 6 digit DIC number of the ship. Or if you don't have that on hand, if you can describe the contents of the ship I can look it up for you." Captain Caleb Talamo"Don't worry about it. I think I took care of something a little more important than a small ship. That was probably the last of the Federation fleet. I am heading back to Earth now." With that, I closed comms and headed back to Earth. Upon arrival, I entered orbit again with the fleet. We got communications from Haroma. That's odd. "Put it through to the viewscreen." A reporter came on in front of the Capitol building. "...has signed the Federation's offer of surrender in front of the entire Senate. Its signature bring an end to the Third Federation War. In addition, all Federation worlds have been turned over to the Empire. For those just joining us, Prime Minister Dodwell has ended the war-" I turned it off. He can't do that. IX isn't going to be very happy. Only he can accept the surrender, which he wouldn't. I just hope he doesn't get the feed. Hell, I hope no one outside the Empire got that feed or we could have a problem.

#10E4C2 - "Very Low Sodium"
The ship then said, "Well, this whole thing that just happened there is going to be trouble, so let's get out of here before we're called-in for a skimming and materials intelligence operation."
Then they departed for Earth.
The screens went blue again and in minutes they were there. Dackham sent his notification to IX's command that the Aatuylvan representative was arriving after a short delay.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Singleton Corbin
Finally an item of good news came in. After the Gomi-operated ships descended upon the wreckage like the scavengers they are, they finally reported finding an escape pod with a heat-signature inside.
"So it's not a total waste", he said, "Get that pod into asymptotic isolation now. I don't want the Aneans to come back and try to destroy more intelligence. As well-meaning as they might be."
------
A handful of small drones clamped onto the outside of the pod. The robot-snake-like head of one of them peered into the front window to confirm the presence of the survivor. It then stuck some kind of suction-cup like thing over the window and used it to transmit sound into the cabin.
"You are being taken prisoner by the Coronan Fleet of The Immanence."
The pod was pulled into the maw of a scavenger ship, and then soon into the pitch-black bell-shaped asymptotic isolator, cutting off the distress signal.
With the bay repressurized, the drones began to punch out the windows. Then swarmed-in.
------
"Private I-don't-want-to-die K. Jimson.", noted Corbin, "Says that the crew thought the captain of the ship was under mind-control because he didn't seem to care about the radiation depleting the crew. So they mutinied, shot him and threw him into the airlock. Smart guys though: instead of ejecting him, they depressurized it, then used the second stage to overpressurize it, turning the captain into a pancake. They didn't get a chance to eject him because the Aneans showed up."
The private continued to arch his back and convulse on the table.
Corbin waved for the Interrogator to let go for a bit and the private relaxed on the table, still foaming at the mouth.
"Looks like it was just break-down of command. A few remaining die-hards end up slaughtering their own soldiers because they think there's still a war to win.", Corbin said, "Clean him up and throw him into cryo until Da Roolz can determine where he should go."
The drones then promptly knocked the private-out chemically and put him into a cryo-suspension pod.
"Make sure the Aneans don't hear about this, at least until Da Roolz figures out what to do.", he finished.
------
Another ship approached the station, this one definately not Federation. It was a bit comical in appearance, the whole thing being in the shape of some dog-lizard thing, with a huge doofy grin and a single claw held up like a #1.
"We got Plaaties", said the station.
Corbin was not in the mood for this. The Plaaties hailed the station with their trademark royal trumpets.
"Presenting: His Royal Highness, King God Emprah Willy The Plat"
Corbin face-palmed. What they hell did they want.
"State your business or GTFO" Manifold Traffic Control was very blunt with them.
"His Royalness is curious about your joining into the Andromedans' conflict here."
"We're not", said Corbin, "We're acting in defense of the planet Earth."
"His Royalness laughs at your adorable sentimentality. Hu hu hu hu hu!"
"The Andromedan Federation was going to glass the planet. As in: ACTUALLY glass the planet. Not just Gamewar. Real war. Obviously, such an action cannot be permitted to happen.", said Corbin.
"Real War as in: ACTUALLY destroying potential subjects of My Throne?"
"Yes. Do I have to say it again or are you that dumb Plat?", shouted Corbin.
"Silence! You shall not shout at MEEEE"
"I'll shout at whoever I damn well please. Now what the hell do you want?"
"Aha hu hu hu hu hu hu hu!", the alien began laughing, "I have a brilliant idea! Now hear this!
His Royal Awesomeness proposes that we engage in gentlemanly game-combat by proxy! Think of it! You can wager on the Aneans and I shall wager on the Federation. It will be jolly good time yes?!"
"I don't think you understand. They aren't playing a game. Their war isn't like our "gentlemanly game-combat". They are actually killing eachother with the intention of extermination. These are not players of a game, they are actual people and actual empires Furthermore: The Federation attacked Earth with the intention of destroying it. Do you understand the severity of this?"
"You're just backing out because you're a pussy"
Corbin couldn't stand the Plaaties, he absolutely hated that weird creature.
"Ok: Do you know who the operators are of the Federation? Tell me, do you know this? You don't, do you?"
"Well. No. They ignored my overture."
"That's because your theatrics look just like a TV broadcast.
They don't HAVE operators, they don't use drones. They are real people running around in cans in space."
"I am incredulous hu hu hu! How could they possibly have a massive empire in the Andromeda system if they were, as you seem to be implying, made of meat? Hu hu!
"I'm not 100% certain but you know... Andromeda does have more Organic-ideal star systems in it. Milky Way is more of a Dark-Matter galaxy.
And more importantly: the Federation already lost their war."
"This is... huh.", Plat said, for the first time in a somewhat serious tone, "I don't like this. Nevermind.
UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN, HIS ROYAL GRANDNESS BIDS YOU ADEIU!"
The comical ship then left.
"I hate Plaaties", Corbin grumbled.

The wraithwolf yelped, but continued to follow the Anean to the former command center, always keeping four or five feet away.
Every once in a while it would go off on it's own, chasing after movement or nosing through debris..
--------------------------------------
"If that is true then I have no use for you. I have no doubt you are an excellent field commander, but tactics do not win wars. Strategy does. And strategy, war itself, hinges on the efficient application and acquisition of information. Thanks to you I have been denied crucial information about troop movements and insights to how the enemy thinks. If you wish to continue fighting this war, you will refrain from the pointless and wasteful execution of prisoners, and if you have a problem with that then I shall have you flogged in front of your troops until the first layer of your skin has peeled off.
"Further more, I expect everyone under my command, and therefore, under your command, to respond to my orders when I give them. Thinking on one's feet is all well and good, but you Aneans are known for blundering in without proper intelligence or planning, and that almost lost us the campaign against the Pudrians..."
He turned away from the window, his hands still clasped behind his back as his gasmask wheezed. If his eyes could be seen, they surely would've been staring deep into the colonel, looking for something.
"I have no use for warriors and vengeance-seekers, colonel. Those types lose wars. While your mighty star empire might have the numbers to waste in long, drawn out wars, my people do not, and I will not send my men out to die if you get in over your head. Which, if you don't follow the more important of my orders, you will...
"Regardless of your personal beliefs, it has been in my long, war-ridden experience, that most soldiers prefer to die for something they believe in, rather than for a pointless lost cause. Perhaps the reason they all fight to the death is because they have a particularly oppressive commissariat? Perhaps they fight so hard because you give them no other alternative. If given the chance, you'll find that most, like you, and others, are merely innocents being thrown by the whims of the leaders of the government. If you have a problem with following my orders and the consequences of not following them, then I'm sure my good friend Lady Commander Tiam would love to talk to her husband about you, or you can sod off. If, however, you wish to partake in the successful reclamation of this area, then you will follow my orders as well as help organize the militia. Either way, I shall provide what supplies I can. Good day Colonel."
The large explosion outside from the cannon of the tank did not phase him.
Sounds a bit like our 800...
-----------------------------------------
"What the hell?"
Several of the soldiers were running about, at first thinking it was an enemy artillery attack, then gawking again at the ridiculously large tank.
Corzi was not so easily entertained.
He walked up to where the GK-III was.
"Where the hell do you think you're going? No one here's slated for patrols yet, and the city is no where near fortified enough. You leave now and you leave all of these civilians open to attack."
Oh god, it was him.
"I know you..you're the one who went nuts at the Aluezian crash, why the hell are you in command? You haven't got orders, what, are you going to go find some scared civilians to shoot at, or do you intend to just grab a machine gun and start an intergalactic incident?"
Corzi knew this one. No discipline. Very hot tempered. How he got above the rank of Legionnaire in the 'star empire' was a miracle. Or perhaps a curse.
"And just how in the name of the six hells do you intend to get all these tanks past the minefield that's being layed, eh? We'd have to clear half of it back up just for these monsters!"
He indicated the GK-Is with his clockwork arm.
"Not even going to stop by to let people know you're even alive? The battallion commander here doesn't even know you've got here yet because he had to talk to the Coronans, gods, man, even one of your own colonels took the time to 'say hello'."
All of this, of course, was in a mixture of German and Aatuylvan, laced with profanity.

The wraithwolf yelped, but continued to follow the Anean to the former command center, always keeping four or five feet away. Every once in a while it would go off on it's own, chasing after movement or nosing through debris.. Captain KCI looked around for a safe. There's one here somewhere that has a computer that controls New Gracaria's auto defenses. I doubt any of them work now, but it's worth a shot. Ah, there it is. I entered a 10 digit code and then opened it. I am lucky that this safe was made of Sphereworld plates and nothing else or this wouldn't work. I took the computer, and a thin book, out and opened both. The computer came on in minutes. I tapped in the 5 long codes from the book. The computer flashed "defenses online". I closed it and stuck the computer and code book back in the safe. I then headed out into what used to be the area around the Command Center. The walls are gone, as I expected. Now we have to clear the city of Federation soldiers. Colonel Christa Utzinger"Yes, thank you for lecturing me on stuff I know. Though, I have to say, you seem to not give a damn about anyone that isn't your people. You seem to be more concerned with your people's lives and the lives of the Federation than the people who own this island and the civilians that live here. Those five million to you seem like nothing. You people know nothing of the value of life we place on our people. "And so you know, a few dozen soldiers, especially the way the Federation keeps all but their officers in the dark, wouldn't give you information that would need. You might succeed in scaring them if nothing else. And we all know how accurate the things soldiers spew out when they are fearing for their lives are. "I will head out of the city, again, and meet up with the Imperator's forces. I have no tolerance for people like you." Colonel Nakhi WelhanAs I climbed into the top of the GK-III, after lots of climbing, I heard someone yelling at me. I climbed back down and listened... barely. "I think what I am doing is fairly obvious. I am getting Anean weapons, armor, and ammo, going to find whatever civilians I can to distribute it to, and then I am going to stay in the city and use this tank as artillery. "And I am in command because there's only one person with a higher rank than me on this island. If you have a problem with me using my equipment and weapons on my island in my city, then talk to the Imperator. "And I never thought of speaking with the battalion commander because, if he's like you, he'd probably not even want me around to begin with. For that, I intend to do what I want and acting only on orders from the Imperator or the Field Marshal who I heard was on the island. "Now, kindly, leave me the fuck alone."

The wraithwolf tilted his head at KC as he fiddled with one of the safes, and as soon as he left, began to try and gnaw into one. Unsuccessful, he dragged the heavy piece of metal out in the open, whining at soldiers, pawing at it.
----------------------------------
"Oh, but I do know. I know that your people are willing to sacrifice billions for the sake of a thousand, eschewing tactics and common sense in order to fulfill some misplaced sense of justice. I sincerely hope that the Imperator has more control over his forces than you do over yourself, for if not, then Aatuylva will be pulling out of this and will let you fight the guerrilla war alone. Good DAY Colonel."
He walked her out of the building.
Fools. The whole lot of them.
--------------------------------
Insufferable smartass.
"Oh, pardon me, it's just that your InShtu dossier says that in this situation, you would surf that tank straight to the enemy-held city wearing naught but a loincloth screaming 'glory' the whole way while your men died around you. Carry on then...
"..Commander Verani is as different from me as your Imperator's choice in spouses are from him. On that note, Tiam and her...entourage say 'hello'....'cuddlekitten'..and wish you well."
Dammit. Some Ai'lupans were picking fights with a native again.
"I shall speak to you again soon, with my recon reports."

Unsuccessful, he dragged the heavy piece of metal out in the open, whining at soldiers, pawing at it. Captain KCI watched the wraithwolf drag over a... vault? How the fuck? I kneeled down and tinkered with the lock. It came open and there were two grenades inside. Odd. I took them both out and clipped one to my waist armor. I looked at the other one. It's glowing faintly. Strange. It's a grenade though. I can tell that much. I said to the wraithwolf, "Go away." "Oh, but I do know. I know that your people are willing to sacrifice billions for the sake of a thousand, eschewing tactics and common sense in order to fulfill some misplaced sense of justice. We are never willing to sacrifice billions, but war, especially with our technology, is a bloody affair. Billions die taking a single planet. We mourn every loss. Civilian and military. "And is justice really misplaced when these monsters raid your planets and kill hundreds of billions of people? You wouldn't know and you definitely don't care as I can see. Go ahead and leave this island. You won't be missed." Insufferable smartass."Oh, pardon me, it's just that your InShtu dossier says that in this situation, you would surf that tank straight to the enemy-held city wearing naught but a loincloth screaming 'glory' the whole way while your men died around you. "Anyway, I am just going to hit the city with the artillery from this gun. So there is going to be lots of shaking. If you want to complain, and I mean no offense by this, take it up with the tank. It's run by an AI."

The wraithwolf grabbed the glowing grenade with it's mouth, trying to yank it from KC's grip. It was growling.

"Hmph. Be sure to remember that when your position is overrun."

Corzi simply nodded, and went on his way.

Somewhere else:
Nathan Allen clomps up through a spiral staircase to an odd Versaille-style room. Where there was a hulking thing, best described as an anatomically androgenous locomotive dragon, wearing a bizarre Victorian-style corset. She unfolded her hand fan and held it in a lady-like fashion.
"Milady.", said the Coronan drone who just arrived, "As you are aware, the Andromedan Federation has pulled back from Earth."
"Yes of course", she said while waving her fan, "So I have heard. I have also heard that the Haroman meatcreatures have begun to take back their island and wish to do it in a peculiar way."
"I agree with you there, milady. If what you're saying is that you disagree with the methods of the one they call IX".
"The Coronans have been disagreeable in regards to this one. I really would rather give this mission to one of my harem and we would finish this."
"I agree milady. However the Coronan caucus does not want to make this a major operation"
The locomotive dragon emmitted an very oddly low laugh, the tone of which did not match her typical speaking voice. Then she said, "A major operation, my hoof. The Federation Meat has already been beaten, all that's left is to... smoke them out."
With that last part, she puffed a thick cloud of soot from her stacks and said, "Really it is such a simple matter. Ask the Aneans to move out of the way, and then we simply burn everything in sight. It's already been nuked, if anything, our processes will improve their new wasteland."
Nathan paced around a bit and then said, "Oh Milady. Things are not so simple.
There are survivors who must be protected. You couldn't expect them to integrate peacefully with the other countries and disband. They are a proud people and to disband and join the other nations would be a defeat to them. I can understand and respect this.
So their island must be repaired, not "formatted" as you speak of."
"Pity", the locomotive dragon said, "It would be so much easier to simply move everyone out of the way.
But apparently IX wants to do this his way."
"Milady", said Nathan Allen, "We don't have to do things IX's way. What is he going to do? Force us to do it his way?"
"In all likelihood, he would attempt to do so. At best he would ask us to leave. Although I wouldn't be surprised if he starts a fight over it.
The Coronan Caucus tells me that they do not trust IX, not even in the least. So they are not wanting to do anything to draw his annoyance. However, by the same token, IX is also a liability for the stability of Earth and this local area of the universe.
When this is finished, we will have to speak with him about that."
"And what of the prisoners?", asked Nathan Allen.
Allison spun around and waved her hand fan and said, "Our procedure shall be followed by our own. I don't care what the Aneans say.
They are a hazard to the process of intelligence acquisition and we will not turn over any prisoners to them.
Don't let them tell us what to do."
"Of course, Milady"

The wraithwolf grabbed the glowing grenade with it's mouth, trying to yank it from KC's grip. It was growling. Captain KCI kicked it away even harder now. I should kill it, but I won't yet. I took the grenade away and clipped it onto my waist armor along with the other one. As I walked out, I said, "If it attacks me again, kill it."

Imperator IX
Let's just end this now. We retake this island as fast as possible and we have a victory I think we will be proud of. Our allies should have been here for a briefing.
Maybe you're right. We have the soldiers, right?
Well, according to your own reports, there are 40,000 soldiers on the ground. The rest are on the ships and waiting if you need them.
That should be enough. The Federation's back is broken. It will be a turkeyshoot. What's the status of the Worldport?
I believe the Remnoran Royal Guard company secured it already and are joining up with regular army forces. 10,000 soldiers landed up there. The rest are spread out along this beach.
How do you know all this again?
I am in your head. I swear, it's like a fucking communications center in here with all the metal plates.
Right.
I got up from my seat and walked out of the tent. I scanned the skies for any incoming aircraft, and saw none. I figured that much.
I was glad to see that one of my soldiers brought down my trenchcoat and hat. It gets cold up here at night. One my aides handed it to me and I put them on. I kind of laughed at the seven stars on each shoulder. At least I know I am a better commander than Welhan.
I went over to one of the tents that our forces set up. The few soldiers within jumped up and saluted me. I simply said, "I need a flare gun."
I am using a red flare to signal the attack. What's supposed to happen is the sentries see it and set theirs off. I didn't want to give the Federation a heads up by radio, but I now realize that flares aren't any better.
You probably should have thought one out.
Yes, I should have. I need my moment of glory on this planet. Might as well get it in this fight.
You're more likely to end up losing this, but whatever you say.
One soldier handed me the gun and checked to make sure it was what I needed. It was luckily.
I headed out of the tent and aimed it into the air. I heard a single thump as it fired. I looked up to make sure it actually lit. It did. I looked to the right and left to make sure the others went up.
It took almost half a minute before I saw the rest light up and the roar of engines as our tanks and other vehicles started up. Our allies better get here sooner if they want to fight. Otherwise we might be marching through the capital when they get here.
The 36" guns of the ANS Harbinger began to fire to provide us with naval support. Unfortunately it won't last very long.
I grabbed a machine gun and another two clips of ammo out of one of the boxes laying around.
Unlike what happened in the Acronos Campaign almost 10 months ago, at least I jumped the gun on my own territory instead of another nation's.
I picked up the radio and said, "Attention, this is the Imperator. Effective immediately, I am changing policy on our prisoners of war. We are to capture all that surrender. They have destroyed this island so we might as well put them to work when it's over."
I walked behind a GK-I as it began to roll out of the camp. I gave my soldiers little time to prepare, but some are actually stopping to take down the tents and pack them. Smart.
The yelling of orders brings me back to Talon. I went in with the first attack group. Twelve million soldiers died on the first day. Bloodiest day in Anean military history, but we got a toehold on the planet for reinforcements.
This is only better in the sense that we are facing a barely battle ready enemy and all of them are probably conscripts that never fired a shot in their lives. Unlike Talon, they aren't entrenched and we aren't facing their most elite soldiers.
I shook my head in an attempt to get the thought out of my mind. I hated that battle.
Let's end this war. Too many have died already. Every moment I sit and wait for allies means more civilians in the occupied area are killed.
