Stn. Cheddar Jalapeno arrived in New Astrapolis with his relatively small company of Gomi Drones. In response to the call for a courier.
Unlike the others they had seen so far, these ones were bulky and strangely ornate, although their ship seemed to be the same Coronan minimalist cylinder.
One of the things approached the nearest Havenite who appeared to be in command, "Singleton Cheddar Jalapeno Flavor, Big C Company. Here to transport your designated commander to the briefing at IX's command center."
While the serpentine Coronans seemed to withhold their curiosity at the Havenites, these bulkier ones were fairly blunt about it. And after plenty of whirring and adjusting of his 6 or 8 inline-eye parts in visually inspecting the thing, the tank-creature said, "After this is over, we will want to get to know you better. You're similar to us."

Verani sincerely doubted that the creatures before him had anything remotely in common with him, save perhaps a metal skin...and was that a mistranslation? Had to be. Who would name themselves after food?
"Good..thank you. I am sending Prime I'okai. I shall have him awaiting you near your ships...he is Ryvuuli, so do try and be careful. They obsess over any technology to the point of madness."
He looked out one of the few windows not boarded up. Smoke and fire, in the distance. Dust. So much destruction. This would be a long war.
"Good luck, Singleton..Cheddar.."
Very little in common indeed.

Colonel Christa Utzinger
"Lead on."
Now I get to see whatever damage they have done to the city.
Colonel Nakhi Welhan
The two 20 shuttles turned around and faced the rear doors toward the city. I put my helmet on in case we come under fire as soon as it opens.
As soon as the doors opened, we went out onto the beach. For once, I am using something than my HPC. One good thing about living on Earth is getting the weapons you used to use back in the day, like an AK-47. I had it in my office just in case.
I headed up the small beach into the city. There are just 40 of us, but it's better than nothing.
Imperator IX
"You know, I find it funny that only one person said they'd have someone coming." I said as I leaned back in my metal chair smoking a cigar.
The Field Marshal said, "We should just do this alone. We would have the island secure by now!"
"That may be, but we would be running into radiation. I would rather not have my skin fall off. Heh, that's the last bit of organics I have. Other than my brain anyway."
"Right. Can we just get this damn war over with?"
"There's a world effort going on here. I would prefer that we-" The chair fell backward and I flipped the table over. Damn it. I hit my head in the dirt and just let out a sigh. "I would prefer that we stay somewhat diplomatic since I am sure that everyone is going to blame us for bringing them here or something. I would also prefer that our treatment of prisoners remains... unknown to the allies.
"On that thought, send out an order to turn over all Federation prisoners to us. We will sort them out... and kill them all. Clearly don't add that last part in."
"Yes sir."
"Oh and do me a favor."
"Sir?"
"GET ME OFF THE GROUND DAMN IT." He walked over and picked the chair back up. "Thank you."
He headed out of the tent and I got up. I flipped the table back over and put the map on. Luckily I have no markers on it yet. I should have had one of the holomaps brought in, but that'd be pointless since the command center will move with the front.

Corzi nodded, leading the way. The streets held primitive tank traps and barbed wire, large metal poles and blockades set up at random intervals, with check points consisting of tankettes and machine gunners on roofs in between those. Mortars and towed artillery (shell and rocket alike) were under camouflage nets, trees, any place they could fit them where they weren't visible from the air but could still strike an enemy approaching the city. Some of the Havenites were marking signs around barb-wired areas around the city...signs with pictures of landmines, skull and crossbones, and explosions on them.
There were two buildings, large ones, where Aatuylvans were handing out bolt action rifles and what spare body armor they had to those who did not arrive in time for the Anean surplus, as well as officers explaining how to use the more odd Aatuylvan devices, such as their signalers.
Eventually they come to one of the lower to the ground civilian buildings, where two Havenite soldiers stood out front like sentinels, the small house unassuming and left alone...looking very much as if it was untouched, save for the guards out front.
"We'll have to wait outside a bit, as he's speaking to the Coronans now."
----------------------
"Hold your fire!"
The Aatuylvan commissar barely pulled the fur away in time. Goddamn militias. Half-civvies is what they were. So jumpy they almost fired on allies. At least there was someone who knew the uniforms.
"Ahoy there! Watch your step, we haven't set up the signs yet on this side and you're about fifty meters from a minefield. I'll send a runner to guide you through it one at a time."
The man shouted this from one of the outer buildings using a megaphone attached to the building side, barbed wire and machine guns poking out from the sides. Freshly dug mounds could be seen littering the entire area surrounding the city, save certain untouched areas.

Before boarding the ship, another drone, a smaller one which almost seemed like a walking pile of old tractor parts and refuse began to brief I'Okai.
"I'm Subcommandant SteinHosen Size Thirty-four. You will be traveling in the main cabin for this trip, we have to make a few stops in the process, but the whole thing should only take about 20 minutes or so. Unlike the cargo transport compartments, the main cabin has some dangers that you need to watch out for. The first being: Under no circumstances should you ever look directly outside a window during transit. Ever. There are almost no windows on this ship, and all of them are in the navigational compartment and are used by the navigational system. I don't know if you posses any of what you people call "telepathy", if you do, I have to ask you to absolutely refrain from "logging-in" to the surface of the ship during transit. There are systems to prevent this, but just like the windows, this is for your protection."
They boarded the ship through a hatch on one of the "caps" of the cylinder.
The inside was akin to that of the compartments they used to transport the Aatuylvan forces. One inside, they came to a staircase where the first step was wider than usual and highlighted. It seemed that every surface was some kind of odd stone-texture except with a slight softness to it. The little garbage robot stopped at the first step abruptly. The thing's expressions were a bit hard to read, and once I'Okai started to step on the next step, some kind of horn or something went off, followed by a silly voice with a German accent saying: "Your mother eats kittens in my swimming pool!" Followed by an odd, upbeat 8-bit jingle. Steinhosen said, "The ship is still learning a language your people use... it also just talks funny."
"Your female parent speaks with frivolity at the academy!", the ship replied, in the same accent as before.
"It's trying to say that the walkway moves and that if you try to climb the staircase normally while it' moves us up to the main cabin, you might fall out of phase and fall through the stairs.", said Steinhosen.
Luckily, a serpentine Coronan drone nearby who heard this exchange in the cargo bay shouted a clarification up after them: "It's like a hologram, but not made out of light.", it said.
With that, the staircase shot them up about 18 feet into the main cabin like an escalator from hell.
The main cabin, was surprizingly less bizzare than expected. A big, cylindrical room with what looked like windows wrapping all the way around. There were "banks" of what seemed like workstations with no controls or operators strewn about, each with a "floor" level to them which was either higher or lower than the "floor" of the room. They were asymmetrical in their distribution. Oddly enough, it almost looked like an empty restaurant with seats and no tables, nor any of the other trappings of such an establishment. The ceiling had an odd, dark-blue carpet-like surface on it, which was the same as that "soft stone" material in the stairway. The floor had the same. The stations appeared to have the texture of old ABS plastic. Resembling some hybrid between old mainframe computer boxes and swimming-pool equipment. A pleasant morning-sun-like light poured in from the "windows", which seemed to be looking out onto a very green park, quite in contrast to the scorched lands nearby. I'Okai focused to peer through the "windows" and saw that there was a scattering of stars above a viridecent ground. What was most odd though: was that there didn't seem to be anyone else around.
"The visualization system in here will show you what's going on around us in a way which is safe. You're not looking directly at the raw image, but rather the ship's interpretation of it. It's like seeing it in a different spectrum, but it's a bit more complex than that."
The ship then said, "Sit." And a quick lurching of the ship knocked both of them down.
"I'm not used to doing this while logged-in to a drone, so this is kinda weird for me too. I'm just here to make sure you get to where you need to go okay.", Steinhosen said.
I'Okai was lucky, and landed in one of the alcoves about 3 feet up from the floor. Steinhosen had rolled across the floor and made a loud clattering noise against the wall under the "windows".
"I'm fine.", it said while checking to see if any parts fell off, "Good. Good. That's probably the best place to be. Oh. Welcome to the Clustership #10E4C2, named "Very Low Sodium"."
"We will be contacting ASE command to inform them of our approach, and we should be getting there in about 20 minutes after we run our errand."
Outside the windows, the green landmass moved away, and it seemed like they were high up in the atmosphere. Except that nothing really appeared to be that far away. Everything seemed to be flat, like cardboard cut-outs. The same sunlight poured in even up here. And then after 10 minutes, they started heading back down to the surface again.

"They claim to be friends of the Lady of Light. They are mechanical creatures. They arranged our transport here in their ships...I do not trust them. They remind me of the Pudrians...then again..so do the Havenites, in their own way.."
---------------------------------------------------
A diminiutive Ai'lupan approached, zigzagging her way through the minefield. Both of her legs were prosthetic, as well as one arm, and she had an eyepatch over her left eye. She was also missing a tail.
"I'm Ziza! I'm the mine scout. One at a time, follow me, don't step anywhere I'm not stepping, and don't second judge me, I've been doin this ten years now, and I'm fine!"
Her one ear was perky, almost distracting from the horrid burn scars, white patches, and parts of her that simply did not have fur. She began to make her way through the smooth areas, moving on all fours, one limb at a time, nose to the ground.
"Well, come on! I've got to get all of you across, unless you want to land those shuttles on a roof somewhere!"
-----------------------------------------------------
"What is it that makes looking outside so dangerous? We're just flying over aren't we?"
I'Okai's ears twitched as he double-checked the tape recorders he brought in his suitcase. They were fine..
Good..
"Even if we are entering space, it's not like the void is going to kill me as long as the ship remains pressurized, what's the big deal?"

I've got to get all of you across, unless you want to land those shuttles on a roof somewhere!" Colonel Nakhi WelhanOh this is going to end well. I see it already. Ending well in a fiery death. I can almost guarantee that someone will step on a mine. I followed her through the minefield first. Last time I was in a minefield I actually stepped on one. Thankfully it didn't go off. When we made it across, I said to Ziza, "If you wanted, after the fighting, I could arrange for you to get robotic replacements for your arm, eye, and legs. Consider it a gift of sorts from me for helping get my soldiers across."

Ziza keeps bouncing on one leg and then the other, tilting her head at Nakhi.
"Robotic? What's that?"
She quickly loses interest, bouncing across the minefield to bring the next soldier over, her cloak flowing behind her like a streamer as she bounded across, only slowing down when those she was leading slowed down.
"Hurry up hurry up these are old ones cranky! Might explode for no reason hurry hurry!"

"What is it that makes looking outside so dangerous? We're just flying over aren't we?" I'Okai's ears twitched as he double-checked the tape recorders he brought in his suitcase. They were fine.. Good.. "Even if we are entering space, it's not like the void is going to kill me as long as the ship remains pressurized, what's the big deal?" "For your safety", said Steinhosen, "We are using the drive system typically used for interstellar flight to go between places because the ship cannot interact, or be interacted with, during jumps. With the exception of certain kinds of more-than-four-dimensional particles, but I won't get into that. If you were too look outside the ship, it would look similar to what you see on the display: where distance becomes a function of density and the third spatial dimension of depth becomes compressed. The main danger is: If you view and attempt to navigate the transposed dimensions directly, you will come to find that the universe is not really all that empty of a place. There's things out there. Things whose dimensionality spans only two spatial dimensions and use a chronological dimension as a third spatial dimension. For example. Now I do have to warn you, because we are going to be grabbing some supplies from the Gomi Nexus ship before heading over to the command center, we are going to be traveling through space. And right now there is a coposition advisory out because of the number of ships and bigger amount of debris in orbit right now." This statement was punctuated by a *clunk* sound. "Like that.", said Steinhosen, somewhat worried, "That's the reason why you shouldn't look out the window. Because that thing that just hit us could have been a once 3-dimensional but now 40-dimensional chunk of debris from some Federation vessel's engine that was destroyed right as it was charging up for something. Just trying to make sense of it would turn it into a terrible beast and cause your brain to have an overflow because it can't be approached that way." On the screen several small asteroid objects came into view far away. They were expanding and unfolding it seemed. The closest of them was some kind of pineapple-like structure that was unfolding and unfolding and... The screens shut off and went blue. "Yeah it seems we have some unusual "weather" up here.", said Steinhosen, "You're fine. Those objects were stripped of their... properties before being displayed. But if you were to directly stare at the raw footage for a few hours, you would be hearing voices." The ship has turned the view off because... well, they're terrifying really. We're heading back down it looks like. They're going to send another ship with the supplies down from the Nexus, it looks like Stn. Cheddar Jalapeno doesn't want to put you at risk. Say, why don't we go down to the navigation deck and then the ship can tell you (and me) what's going on?" The moving staircase of doom took them down about half way. It felt like it was less distance than it was. They then went down a short hall, some more Gomi drones were on both sides, they seemed to be on standby. Then around another corner and there was a solid wall. "Ahem" Steinhosen said. He then opened his mouth and emitted modem noises for a few seconds. The wall then rolled up and they went in. Inside, there was a preponderance of both the bulkier Gomi and the serpentine Coronan drones all around. Just sort of milling about, most of them appeared to be idly sitting or brooding over things. About 30 little red-dot eyes immediately turned to look at I'Okai for a second, then most of them returned to other things. Surprizingly, the floor was littered with scraps of stuff and there were piles of junk all over. Steinhosen emitted another modem-like screech and all of the monitors, which there weren't that many since most of the creatures didn't need them for what they did, turned off. Despite the messiness of the place, the only profound odor was a diesel-like smell. "It's somewhere back there.", said the Steinhosen critter, who's eyes were now also glowing like the others in the dark. "Singleton Raholay. Would you like to meet our passenger?", it asked out loud. It then looked at I'Okai again and shrugged. Then a giant tank of a creature began moving towards them. It was a massive thing, ornate like the ones back at New Astrapolis. This one was tremendous and looked like something built by a victorian-era madman. It must have had four huge stacks coming off the section where it's tail met the rest of it's body. And there was an orange glow coming from every vent. It's eyes were just like the other drones in the room. Then, in a surprizingly, almost humorously high-pitched voice it said, "Whatya want? I'm Raholay. What's going on hur? You wanna know what's goin on out there do ya now? Well if I showed ya. I'd have to snatch you up and make you inta charcoal before ya became a-touched. And then we would all a-make you into a carbonaceous feast. B'cause mah crew hasssn't had a good nommy meal since they a-left Gallego II yes?" Every serpentine Coronan drone in the room rolled its eyes as every Gomi drone sort of gave a fraternal laugh. Steinhosen then clarified, "The Singleton is attempting to make a joke." Contrary to it's high-pitched voice, the huge tank-monster gave a deep bellowing "Ho ho ho ho ho!", opening it's mouth wide, some of the orange-glowing fog puffing out as it did. "He's kidding. Nobody is eating anyone. I don't even think he can. The singleton is just a Gomi drone being operated by a Nachtan. That's what the orange glow is. Nachtan are energy organisms, I don't think they even know how to eat. Sorry. Gomi and Nachtan really don't have the same kind of manners as Coronans sometimes. I should know, my species is crude as hell. Although to you all, I suppose we're all Coronans, since those were the first variants you met, and we're all quite similar to you I suppose. Which is fine. Let's just leave it at that until this war is over and then we can sort details out and all shake claws and be merry."

Hopefully she doesn't run off again. If she does, I am just going to head over to the National Guard base. I said, "Ziza, as I was saying earlier, I can get you an arm and leg that worked like the real ones you used to have, but they are machines." Hopefully she understands what a machine is.

Damn."I shall be but a moment." Verani seized a radio broadcaster from one of the troopers loading up, "This is Lord Commander Verani, requesting the transport services of the Aluez. I have three Leviathan Heavy Helis en route that require transport to the Anean colony, think you've got something big enough to take them?" The Leviathans themselves were loaded up with food, ammo, and spare parts, with one carrying nothing but tailsitters and Ontos armors rigged with parachutes. It would not take them long to reach Aluez, as they had moved to Haverigg along with most of the transport helis...he just hoped the Aluez could take them. Without them he would not have any real cargo transferring ability...dammit he needed trains. He couldn't afford to wait for a response, so he ordered the Leviathans to Aluez. Hopefully they could be loaded onto one of their vehicles. If not.... "Alright you sods, load up! We've got work to do!" "Yeah yeah, 'ust get yer asses hera and we'll h'ul you to war" says a scruffy voice over the communications channel in Aatuylvan. "There are five Transport craft station at Tyr, land on the deck, and we will strap your craft in." says another person in Aatuylvan. "We should be reaching the landing in Anea's colony within the hour, along with a massive taskforce that will be under the Aluezi command. Feel free to come along if you wish" ----- This was a sight to behold, really. The fleet, except for the Tyr battalion, was already out at sea near the island they had so lovingly dubbed Whistle Island, due to it's shape. The fleet in all was composed of the following ships: Commonwealth of New Slovakia: - 3 Battleships - 2 Battlecruisers - 10 Cruisers - 1 Heavy Destroyer - 3 Aircraft Carriers - 5 Destroyers - 17 Frigates - 29 Transports (2000 troops each) Sounai Union: - 3 Frigates - 4 Fast Attack Boats - 4 Transports (450 troops each) 14 Nomadic Groups: - 16 transports (500 troops each) - 12 Fast Attack Craft Aluez: - 1 Seair Destroyer - 12 Seair Strike Frigates - 4 Aero Siege Frigates - 3 Helicopter Carriers - 20 Aero Patrol Corvettes - 16 Aero Transports (550 troops, 4 tanks each) ----- "The fleet will be in working order and on the move as soon as the Tyr division arrives, Comrade Blair" says the communications officer of the Reliance, the Destroyer that was leading the Aluez portion of the fleet. "They will be bringing Aatuylvan aircraft with them, as well as needed supplies for the assault force after they arrive on shore." "Excellent..." he smiles and taps his fingers against the chair as he stared out at the blue sky, the craft itself being a quarter of a mile above the ocean. "Notify the fleet to move forward, 5 knots, until we are completely ready to go" "Yes Comrade Blair" the communications officer sent out the message to the other fleets, the ship moving forward with the fleet once they began to move out.

She started bounding around Nakhi, sniffing at him, her head swiveling at every noise.
"You're a strange kitty. How come you have white spots? Panthers don't have white spots. Are you a mutant panther? You must be. No panther has white spots. What happened did you get burned all over as a baby?"
She starts sniffing into the pouches and pockets of his uniform, until her muzzle was in his left pocket.
"WHAT IS THIS?"
She pulls out a chocolate bar, sniffing it.

I'Okai honestly could not move. He thought the strange being was going to eat him.
"I..err..well...I suppose most would call you "Coronans"...the same thing happened wit the...citizens of the Commonwealth of Cal..we all call them Cali now.."
---------------------------------------------------------------
The Leviathans landed at Tyr, the former crashsite turned city-state, their cannons being pulled inside to allow for easier loading. One of the pilots stepped out a rear hatchway, a young grey fox in dark robes and a pair of goggles.
"Oi, so, where do we load up at?"

Usa woke up a little. Her head was a little clearer now. She was inside somewhere. Certainly. There were noises. People. Near by.
"Uh, hello?"
----
Over a hill came the UTAS Boff. Like many in the fleet of Tinisian airships, it was bulky, covered in things that might be weapons, the occasional propeller, and didn't look like it should be flying. No glowing engines, thrusters, and the propellers were still. The Tinisian flag was waving from several of the masts at present, mostly to make it clear that this was friendly. It landed slowly not far where the meeting of the ground forces was set to be and soon after the Boff's captain, a very tall for a Tinisian mixed canine, and several officers emerged to meet up with IX and company.
----
"Do you know where I might be able to find Andertol today? I know things are kind of hectic right now."
"That... is and understatement strange person. Have you not seen the news. Or you know, the mushroom cloud over Broby?"
----
"You know, this is actually pretty fun. Just hanging out with all of you here on the roof."
"Yeah. And with no explosions about, it seems the day is just kind of awesome. Ya know?"
Harvey shifted in the lawn chair. He was watching the sky. There were faint dots all across it now. Sometimes one of them would flare up as a piece of debris hit the atmosphere. "Yeah, its great."
"Oh come on, relax. You're always so nervous. Always so crazy. Grow your fur out for once dude."
"Heh, yeah. Its just a general feeling of impending doom. Even if the world isn't going to shit."
"Wow, you sound like those looser guys whom think no one will give them a job or something with that attitude."
"I know right? Its like everything that's ever happened to me is just a build up to a major let down or something."
"You weird."
"Yeah, now get done with that emo crap and watch that sky burn."
