Suprisingly the young mercinary Swift McSteal, the ever clumsy weasel, has survived several actual combat situations, though largely in part by falling down at the right time to preserve his slightly empty head. He is on yet another house to house search for insurgents, on their either 8th or 9th town, which is being debated between the group as they head into another shell-shocked building.
a large brown bear, "I'm tellin' you, we've only been to 8 towns so far, that little pit stop of a po-dunk city doesn't count, we just rolled on through without doin nothin'!"
Swift, "uh, but we did have to chase out some of them bandits in dere, and we secured it, so does too count."
the bear, "No, it only counts if we actualy secured somethin', an that place is nothin, in no-where."
Swift, "but there wuz some people there after all, I saw them."
the bear, "Oh who cares what you saw, we didn't have ta hardly do anything, so why should it count huh?!"
He pushes Swift, who stumbles head long into a bookcase, causing many of the novels to fall.
the bear, "Now look what you...gone...and...found...What is this?"
Swift looks up, seing a large metal pannel behins the books that fell, and part of the one of the bookcases leaning out.
Swift, "Uh, it looks like a big, metal, wall...thing."
the bear, "Well duh Swift, but it looks like a blast door, a nuke one or something. I wonder what's behind it?"
they pull at one side, it sliding back revealing a huge door which lies open. On the back of it, it reads "Shimandu Secret Operations Base Gama" and "Warning, Nuclear Material" with a bio-hazard sign as well.
Swift, "oh boy, looky what we found. This be important I bet."
the bear, "No kidding, good thing your so darn clumsy. We'd better tell Silverbane.
----------------------------------------------------------
Blade Silverbane, after examaning the secret bunker, "Well, that was disturbing. A nuclear silo, without nukes."
Saber, "There were spaces for 12, large nuclear missles, older, larger, dirty nukes at that. I won't bother to wonder why they were here because they aren't anymore. It was likely just an older silo that was never used aside from housing older nukes."
Blade, "Well, I suppose we had better tell ol' Opey hadn't we, if he can hear us."
Saber, "Oh, he's awake, and starting to recover well from what I've heard, and after the recent nuclear strike, he'll be very interested to know."
Blade, "I wonder if this will be worth a bonus."
Saber, "Ha! From him? I dont think so. They are already paying us more than they can afford. We dont come cheap you know."
Blade, "Yeah, I know, but still, this is important info, I'll get tecky to get relaying it to Ciata and the FF Council Building."
Saber, "Something that troubles me though..."
Blade, "What?"
Saber, "Where are all the other nukes? From the strikes, if all the places that have been nuked were all from this one silo, then that would still leave around 8 nukes not accounted for."
Blade, "Yes, and with a mad-beast likely in control of them. War, love it, hate it, live by it, that's our way."

"From Tinis Public Broadcasting headquarters in Arx, here's Simon Skunk," says voice over.
"Good evening. Operation Diamond Claw is nearing completion. Tonight a vast majority of Shimandu and Genus Liberalis are under the control of Federation forces. Ealier today with the completion of the major strategic goals, official information was released on the nature of Diamond Claw."
The image of the well dressed skunk is replaced by a map of Shimandu and Genus Liberalis. Arrows beging moving in from the various areas controlled by Federation forces towards the uncontrolled areas.
"Last week, having sufficently secured the boarder regions, Tinisan forces once again advanced into the Shimandan country side. From the south east Shikeishuu continued their march, overwhelming all resistance. In Genus Liberalis, Lemurianian forces even now approches that nation's former capitol.
"We go now to correspondant Max Illio in the small Shimandan city of Astor where he is with Commander Usil of the Army. Max?"
The map dissapears and is replaced by a young fox standing besid a large black bear in green Tinisian style fatigues. They appear to be on the roof of a large building overlooking a small city. Smoke rises up from several spots on the horizon. Max Illio wears a tan flack jacket and a press badge.
"Thank you Simon," says the fox. "I'm here with Comander Usil, the primary commander on the ground here in Shimandu. Commander, what can you say about the situation here in Shimandu?"
"I am glad to say that we've managed to secure the surrender of almost five thousand insurgant fighters and twelve resistant governors. There have been some civilian casualties, but a lot less then was feared. There are still some zones near where our forces aproche the Shikeishuu control line that are still beyond Federation control, but in the next few days these last bastions should be sealed off and reduced. A majority of the remaining insurgents are taking up residence in these areas."
"Commander, what can you tell us about the situation with the missing nuclear missiles?"
"Personally I doubt the empty silos found by the Silverbane mercenaries were ever filled, but there is mounting evidence that they were indeed storage sites for missiles. However, our lack of intel on some of these locations has had us miffed of late. But from this failure, I'm sure our intelligence efforts shall adapt to not make such a mistake again. As for Sicarii, there's been no sign nor scent of public enemy number one since the amazing non-exploding missile incident."
Maxs lets a small smile appear on his face before asking his next question. "And how are operations in Genus Liberalis."
"I have not been updated of late on conditions there, however, from what I understand great progress is being made by Federation forces and about two thirds of that country has been secured. I'm sure the network will get a full report later this evening."
"Thank you Commander. Simon?"
The image returns to Simon Skunk.
"Thank you Max. Indeed fears are high about the possibility of eight missing nuclear weapons in Shimandu. Nuclear proliferation is quickly becoming the main focus of the Furry Federation council as today it begins debate on Resolution 108. 108, Lemuriania seeks to limit nuclear arsenals and the development and usage of fissable materials and devices. The resolution has met with some strong resistance from other nations. But the federal government is divided on weather Tinis should give the thumbs up to the resolution."
Image changes to a grey wolf, Speaker Dizmuluk, standing in the front of the Tinisan Chamber of Speakers.
"You see," says the wolf. "The resolution before the Federation is nothing more than a power grab by the anti-nuclear lobby. I'm sure the Lemurs are only putting it forward to belay the fears in their nation. But to hear so many appologists in this very chamber is frightenting! Do you not recall that roughtly fourty percent of our primary power comes from fission plants? Do you recall that our mighty air force's crown jewel, the sky ship, runs on nuclear fission? There are even buses in this very city that run off radioactive material?"
Cuts to Speaker Woza, a sunny Lynx.
"Does the Speaker from Butin not remember the glow that was visible from his home town a couple weeks ago? Does the Speaker from Forr need to be reminded that the fisheries in his district are due to loose millions due to radioactive fish? I emplore the First Speaker to instruct the Secretary of State to endorse this resolution."
Image returns to Simon Skunk.
"The First Speaker has refused to comment.
"In national news..."

- - - Race Towards the Capital: Shikeishan Mechanized Forces Roll Over Opposition - - -
In a broad sweep across the northern regions of Shimandu under a protective umbrella of long-range interceptors and the everpresent 'warthog' ground attack aircraft, the Shikeishan ninth and 23rd armoured divisions advanced relentlessly with the third armoured division dug in as the pivot point of a huge "swinging gate" maneuver, this heavily reinforced "hub" able to support any units that encounter heavy resistance via its massed artillery, main battle tanks, medium range missiles, and forward airbases. Led by the charismatic Field Marshal St. Bernard Montgomery, a veteran commander with extensive experience from the war between Shikeishuu and Pyrexan Bordello, the Shikeishan military continues its campaign across Shimandu, scattered rogue elements soon finding themselves on the run or surrounded by the overwhelming might of one hundred thousand seasoned combat troops.
For all the Empire's faults in financial, diplomatic, and lack of personal liberties, its almost single-minded focus on its police, military, and massive armaments industry pays off on the field of combat, battalion-sized forces moving with surprising fluidity and nimbleness excepted of well-trained platoons. Nowhere else is this more apparent than in combined forces operations: the startling speed with which artillery and air support are brought into action against any significant enemy resistance encountered by ground units is often enough to break the backs of the scattered self-proclaimed local warlords - who cannot count upon outside assistance let alone against an invading force of such size and possessing such firepower as the Shikeishan juggernaut.
Even the Shikeishan military is far from invulnerable, however. Working closely with their Tinisian allies and (if permitted) with the Ciatans, the Empire employs its advantage of rapid transport to any battle area to airlift "specialists" (Rajah Borah, dragons, etc.) to quickly address any 'non-conventional' or 'supernatural' threat with the appropriate 'arcane' response. These allies, with the armoured might of the Shikeishan military backing them, are thus permitted to carry out their missions within a protective ring of mechanized might to ensure no other enemy can come to the aid of their beseiged comrades-in-arms.
Newsreels laden with war footage inundate the FNN (Federation News Network): favourite clips include wide angle shots of dozens of tracked 155mm howitzers conducting battalion-level fire missions against a warlord's mountain hideout, aerial footage of missile and strafing runs by 30mm vulcan-equipped A-10 thunderbolt aircraft, and the destruction of what few enemy aircraft remain to oppose the SAF's "air superiority" campaign (an isolated warlord soon finds himself critically low on spare parts, fuel, and munitions for difficult-to-service jet aircraft while the Shikeishans enjoy the backing of the Federation's largest arms industry).
Thus, with the exception of a few stubborn pockets of resistance (since all the military might in the world cannot hasten the flushing of hidden caves in isolated areas nor can mass bombardment be conducted against highly-populated sectors, the latter necessitating urban combat) the Shikeishan military's "rolling thunder" crushes or chases its scattered opposition before it on a front measured in the hundreds of miles. Prisoners are due to the Empire's bad reputation for handling same shepherded to internment camps staffed by Federation personnel in order to avoid bad publicity, Shikeishan M.P's (military police) always handing over patrolling of occupied areas to their Federation counterparts at the earliest possible moment.

TO: Field Marshal St. Bernard Montgomery of Shikeishuu FROM: ommander Jebbidia Usil of Tinis SUBJECT: Shimadan Capital Operations
First off I'd like to express Tinis' gratitude for all Shikeishuu has done these past few weeks in bringing order back to Shimandu.
But political niceities aside, now that Shimandu City is fully encircled by Shikeishuu forces and you are in a position to strike, I would like to offer assistance in your operations there. As your radar might have observed, we have in the area three Ravenfire class Airships capable of high and low altitude high percision strikes. In the event that Sicarii or similarlly unusual elements are present in the city, the Ravenfire may be able to assist in surprise high percision strikes of these targets. You'll soon recieve encrypted information that contains the proper comm codes to identify any message you send them as friendly and Shikeishun in origion. The three craft are the Optala, the Noble, and the Piecia. Just give them the word and they'll take care of the bastards.
Good hunting.
-Usil

To: Commander Jebbidia Usil of Tinis From: Field Marshal St. Bernard Montgomery Subject: Shimandan Capital Theatre of Operations
The assistance of your troops has proven invaluable in the conducting of our own operations given the number of potential and actual adversaries whose attention was occupied by the incursion of Federation troops rather than devoting their time to banding together against us.
We are presently consolidating our positions around the city with the intent to blockade it prior to commencing operations against hostile forces quartered therein. It is our intent to ensure the war criminals who we wish brought to justice do not escape from the capital. They must be made to answer for the wrongs committed against the erstwhile peaceful populace of Shimandu.
As for political niceties, we do as you are aware have an admittedly bad reputation regarding treatment of military and political prisoners. Further to this we have and will continue turning those who surrender over to the appropriate Federation authorities and in absence of same wish to welcome observers from our member nations to oversee the treatment of any prisoners in Shikeishan custody, including any interrogation, until they are transferred into Federation run interment camps.
We welcome the involvement of your Raven-class airships and will endeavor to repay the favour through the provision of combat air patrol by our mk.1A Shinken high-speed interceptor fighters from forward airbases established in the capital area. We would be honoured to protect these invaluable airships while they are operational over and around the capital. We will make our Special Forces forward observers available for an orientation session with your air force to better employ the resources at our disposal through increased familiarity with the ordnance your airships carry.
With kindest regards,
- Bernard C-in-C Shikeishan Armed Forces
