We personaly choose not to. We live in a relitively peaceful area and find our defences capible of repelling nearly any hostile force. Also economicly speaking space based weapon platforms are not cost efective, the price of space based emplacemnts are astronomical and maitnence is nearly as expensive as the weapons themselfs. They are also easily disabled or destroyed and can only deliver marginal firepower compared to land or sea based heavy weapons.

the thing is, i have next to no military, i think. I've cut military spending twice, and have dismised the idea of a draft. I need to have some sort of defence. And my advisor is right. Space cannons are just plain cool =D

I rely on the defence of necessity. Rather than orbital weapons, just ensure the country has a large space industry. If anyone attacks, we shut off the satalites and the attackers lose TV and phone service. A little reprogramming, and radio is jammed.
Vyl military is small but well-trained, and with lots of gadgets. Its intended more for counter-terrorism and peacekeeping - there is just no need for city-smasher weapons.
