Important Notes:
Government:
The political system, handed down from the days in which the humans dominated the government, is comprised of a bicameral parliament elected by ridings based on population density with a current ratio of 500,000 citizens to 1 MP, with two-hundred and forty MPs currently sitting in the lower house, or House of Commons. The upper house, or Senate, has its members appointed by the lower house with a two-thirds majority of Members required to appoint a citizen to the Senate.
The current leader is Gordon Fawx. Having no specific limits on the number of terms that can be served this veteran of the political process has seen countless changes in opposition leadership. Having served as Prime Minister for nearly a decade he's a hard-nosed canid with a reputation for ill-temper, earning the nick-name "The Irate F.O.X.". He is, however, known to be compassionate to those in need and has steered the government toward a responsible socialist turn, much to the chagrin of some human nations.
Social Atmosphere:
With the disappearance of most of the humans in the nation some two hundred years ago the furry population has grown and prospered, taking the progress started by the previous inhabitants and progressing. The few remaining humans are able to move freely throughout the society and are mostly employed in research and development for civilian industry and medicine, with a few working for the tiny but heavily armed self-defense force.
Regional politics are still a problem with the plains felines and the wolves of the High Forest coming into frequent conflict over funding for projects, leaving the vulpine and the herbivore species to attempt to mediate disputes, something the willy vulpines are now renowned for. Cultural integration has been slower than hoped but the two largest cities in the country occupy the lowland forests that seperate the plains and High forest, allowing the two most vitriolic sides in the (rather tame, admittedly) conflict to have some neutral ground.
History:
Around the end of the 18th century the human population of Baradun was decimated by, of all things, a plague. While not increadibly contagious it was selective enough only to go after humans and in the end only those who managed to get away from the settlements in time managed to survive. As such what remains of the humans are an increadibly fit and intelligent bunch with a strong bent toward peace and stability.
The survivors managed to come together again and found that they were now not alone. Furs of many different species had moved into the area now left vacant by the decimated humans. While somewhat fearful at first any apprehensions were eventually settled by the mid 1850s and the first session of the modern Baradun Parliament began on May 2nd, 1856. No record of internal conflicts exist with the exception of minor regional spats, never armed, in 1892 and 1937 over internal trade and regional autonomy.
The Dominion has stayed largely hidden until the end of the late 20th century for reasons which will be explained shortly.
Technology:
Advanced, to say the least. Because of the state of the remaining humans, those smart enough to make it out alive, the level of technology present is an outstanding achievement by any standard. The small but powerful armed forces and the extensive and incredible medical system are both testaments to that.
Having discovered radiation in 1896 and fission by 1921 development has proceeded apace with the development of large-scale fusion reactors by 1972 and their subsequent miniaturization in 1983 founding the basis for the current force of battlemechs and their support facilities which defend the country.
Other developments as a result have included particle projection cannons and heavy and efficient laser technology along with high-efficiency myofiber.
Nanotechnology has also been a dramatic innovation. The first prototype nano-machines were developed by the collaboration effort of a research team made up of almost every species in the Dominion in the December of 1984. The first successful manufacture, of the first prototype battlemech incidentally, was achieved only June 29th, 1985 in full view of the population of the capital city of Ardenth, giving the public their first glimpse of the two technologies which would allow the nation to finally allow itself to be seen by the world.
By 1990 the first trials of nanomachines to repair wounds were executed, with fairly abysmal results, and they were abandoned for everything but dealing with automatic healing of minor flesh wounds.
To this day, however, every citizen has an incredibly thin skin of nano-machines that covers their body, ready to mend minor abrasions and cuts as well as attempt to detoxify the bite of the Hydras that routinely abound in the High forest, though they still cannot heal the wounds themselves.
Land:
The Dominion of Baradun is located on the western temperate peninsula directly south of Llewellynlland, stopping at the arcing White-fang mountains to the westernmost edge of the peninsula.
The High forest, with its one, minor, city of Athlanka, is dominated by majestic forests which house the Lupine, Ursine and Forest Ungulate populations, as well as the Hydra population and various feral species. The High forest extends all the way north and south to the coasts, arcing gracefully outward with the east.
The lowland forests is the home of the two largest cities, Ardenth, the capital, and Gitmaras, the closest thing to a manufacturing center the peninsula has. Both cities are fed by large rivers, the Madrath and the Kingsbridge, which run through Gitmaras and Ardenth respectively.
Ardenth is a port city, the original center for the first Human nation, but was largely abandoned until a decade before confederation when it was cleared and re-settled in 1840 by the remains of the Humans and a joint Lapin and Vulpine group. The city has gradually grown to include members of almost every species including a few immigrant ones and even the odd dragon. Good planning, however, has kept the city very livable and a great amount of green-space and public transit are available along with aerospace facilities. Commercial and residential districts are sensible with a bit of a futuristic flair while government buildings, made of limestone imported from the lowlands, sit clustered around a hill overlooking the Kingsbridge on a solid granite outcropping.
The lowland plains, populated by ungulates and felines, are much warmer and a mark more humid than the adjacent lowland forests. The area, however, is much drier due to the fact that the Kingsbridge and Madrath make sharp turns to the north and south, leaning only tributaries to run along the interior for a ways before coming together and depositing into a small lake before flowing south to the ocean. A lack of tree cover combined with a warm current to the south make the area much warmer as well. There are several small cities along the only river but none along the coast except where the Arilith, the combined Kingsbridge and Madrath, meets the sea in a small river delta. The area is the agricultural center for the nation, however, and is run by a few collective farms and many smaller independent ones. Sustainable fresh-water fishing is also popular around the main lake.
Military Power:
Baradun employes roughly one thousand full-time military staff. The organizational status is as follows with heavy equipment comming in the far left tab followed by personnel breakdown in the right tab.
250 Mechs
250 Mechwarriors
50 Dropships
100 Pilots
100 Mechanics
50 Cooks
100 Medics
100 Technicians
200 Powered-Armours
The miniscule size of the military is counter-balanced with the awesome power of it's main units. Each mech is quite capable of demolishing an entire armoured division in a few minutes and onboard anti-missile systems prevent most aerial attaks from having much effect.
A list of available dropships is as follows:
Angry Weasel
Blackhammer
Bob
Bullet Magnet
Colon
Damoclese
Eclipse
Flying Brick
Flying Pig
Frozen Hell
Ghost Wolf
Hapheastus
Irate Fox - Flagship - Commanded By Gen. Edward Isac Brock
Killer Smilley
Lionheart
Madeira
Notificator
Omnibus
Raging Chicken
Sad Pup
Saucy Vixen
Titan
It is important to note that all officers are also expected to pilot mechs. This is a twofold advantage because officers are less likely to be complacent abou their troop positions and it keeps the command overhead down. The danger of having an officer killed in the line of duty is considered a minimal risk.
An open project is under way to plan and design a full-scale battle-cruiser; though the construction and crewing of the vessel is all uncertain as the project is only in feasibility stages. Estimates of the number of crewmembers to be used range anywhere from one hundred to seven-hundred and fifty combat and support personnel, making it the single largest engineering undertaking the nation has yet attempted. The reason for the sudden action is the realisation of senior officials that security threats from other regions do exist that would require a potent force to deal with, as well as a mobile base for dropships to assist other countries with said security risks.
Miscelanious:
Public nudity is generally forbidden, except under special casses, including but not limited to breakthrough scientific discovery and wet clothing in winter.
The citizenry is actually quite sexually active, however, in line with the state of civil rights in the nation.
It should also be noted that immigrants are expected to follow local custom, to a point, and not attempt to impose religious law on the entirely secular state.

Name: The Right Honourable Gordon Fawx
Born: June 18th, 1963
Approximate Species: Red Fox, Bipedal
Gender: Male
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 175 lbs
Eyes: Steel Blue, leading some to suspect human heritage, though random genetic mutation is more likely.
Fur Colour: Bright orange-red with appropriate black and white markings.
Marital Status: Engaged to a rather fetching silver vixen at the moment.
Build: Lean but beginning to thicken in places from nearly a decade of sedentary life.
Personality: Abrasive at times but otherwise kind and fairly gentle. The energy that got him party leadership and his first election has tempered somewhat, though only his fiancee knows for certain.
Personal History: Considered a kind and generous figure by-and-large he has overseen the development of the modern military and has done his best to deal with a growing number of concerns arising from recent archaeological finds that have set up tensions between various species, though thankfully the Human population is not involved. He tends to try and keep the country away from external conflicts but the time is quickly coming when the elite forces that are ostensibly under his command may have to be committed, either in defense of his homeland or in another nation.
Name: Gen. Edward Isac Brock
Born: Jan 10th, 1970
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 180 lbs
Eyes: Sky blue
Hair: Dark Brown
Marital Status: Single
Build: Very lean
Personality: Careful with a knack for making the right move if pressured, usually because he knows more than he's either supposed or expected to.
History: Graduated of Ardenth University at the age of 23 with an undergraduate in nano-engineering he joined the military as a mechanic when the last of the older forces were being phased out in favour of the new battlemechs and experimental dropships. He quickly demonstrated a proficiency with handling the new machines when he did tests and was steadily promoted through the ranks, becoming the head of the armed forces at the age of 32 by being the only person able to successfully command the new force in combat. He has since gone about revamping the small but effective force into well trained and disciplined task force. He is actually a rather intelligent man and realized early on that talent and ingenuity made up a far better force and raw muscle and mindless procedure, aiding him in mock combat trials and earning him his top spot. He is referred to jokingly as "Old Softy" by his troops, though mostly by the males; the females have a different name for him which isn't usually mentioned in public.
Name: Answeller Greatfang
Born: April 18th, 1965
Species: Timber-wolf
Gender: Male
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 220lbs
Eyes: Chestnut
Hair: Mottled Black and Gray with fringes of white
Marital Status: Married, three pups, ages 16, 18 and 18, two females, one male.
Build: Slightly overweight but with the remnants of once-great physical prowess still evident
Personality: Quiet and reserved. For a wolf he tends to be painfully apprehensive about doing things that might upset anyone and is quick to offer any assitance he can, even though it may be limited. He follows the "Open Door" policy of the government, however, which means that he will tell anyone who asks what the exact answer to their question is; as well as can be determined at least.
History: Graduating from the University of Athlanka with a degree in political science he worked for the department of internal affairs for half a decade before going back to Athlanka to earn his Master's. He proceeded to move down to Ardenth to work at the central ministry of Internal Affairs and joined the whelpling Department of Foreign Affairs as Baradun prepared to make itself known to the outside world. He now sits on the Furry Federation council as the official representative of Baradun and though the position lacks the physical activity of his more youthfull work in the country he finds it a great honour to represent his diverse nation as their first, true ambassador.
