(Golden Retriever, pure breed) about GBWTOn Humans: All species, furs, scalies, and humans, are all treated equally under law. All over the major cities, public broadcasting systems have been installed, and are used whenever the public needs to be notified of some going ons. The borders of this nation are open to all immigrants, and protected from enemies by powerful orbital wepons of varying power, design, and type. Be it laser, electro magnetic disturbance, rail gun, or other wise, none have had to be used as of yet, and it should be noted that these make up for the lack of military, most of which consists of specialized commandos and powerful support equipment. The Great Big Wet Thing has no protocol on what is required to be worn in public. one who travels to GBWT will find various furs and humans alike in states of dress and undress, mostly because fur and pants dont always go well together, esp in the summer months. On Great big Wet Thing's Cities and transportation:
GBWT's cities are really quite amazing. With greenbelt laws that have been passed, cities do more growing up then out. This has resulted in massive, towering skyscrapers. This led to problems with getting around the cities. To fix this, personal vehicles were banned from city limits, and only emergency and government vehicles are permitted. In place of personal cars, public transport in the form of meglev trains, SEGways, and bikes takes over. In order to deal with furs automobiles that are restricted from the city, large parking garages are set up around the outside of the cities to store them. Intensely fast express elevators take you up the skyscrapers, and you can travel between the buildings via sky ways, or walk ways that link buildings together. There is extensive apartment use within the cities, but outside the major cities, suburbs are the home of choice.
Several laws enacted remove almost all speed limits outside populated areas. More meglev trains parallel the extensive highway system. The highway system follows roads that are hundreds of years old. With the removal of the speed limit, travel between cities often does not take long. Smaller towns may or may not have stations for the meglev trains, and are more like most cities or towns you would find in the modern world.
As stated before, there is no mandatory dress code within the borders of GBWT, and all people and furs visiting are reminded of this.

Just a little tid bit from a short history text.. "And the earth shook with their roars and the pounding of their feet, and the skies did burn with their rage. And so their enemies fell under the onslaught of the Furs of the south." ~ Exerpt from GBWT history. This is why we blow things up to celebrate! EDIT: Perhaps a little more info on this yes? This is a text taken from a mideliv type period in BWT history, when the pininsula was ruled by smaller city-states, and it was a time of war, strif, and monarchs. This is an exerpt taken from when the last king of the early nationstates atacked and took over the last remaining kingdom on the pininsula. A few hundred years later, the pesants had united and over thew the monarchy, installing a type of democracy, though the executive branch still holds quite a large amount of power.

On the Government system: (this is vague and subject to change)
The government of GBWT is 3 parts, Excutive, Legeslative, and Judicial.
The Excutive branch: consiting of the President who is elected for 10 year terms by direct populare vote, has the most power in system. true, a system of checks and balances are in place, but for the most part, the president is the one running things.
The Legeslative brance: consists of a house of sorts, where elected officials pass laws, organise budget spending, and general make the country as a whole run. They deal with international issues and items concerning the entire nation. They suposedly have the power to take control of the military with a 3\4 majority vote, and to remove the president with a 5\6 majority vote.
The Judicial branch: consists of smaller local courts, regional courts, and the high court. The high court is made up of 13 officials, 4 opointed by the house, 3 by the president, and 3 directly elected by the people.
There is no electoral colege, as all officials are elected directly by the people in a popular vote, except a few that are apointed by the house and the president. For the most part, it works.
(this will evolve later on, i'm sure)

(more history. As always, ever evolving history ) B.F. This is the era before the takeover of the GBWTinians. Each tribe and kingdom used their own dating system for the most part, if they kept records at all. ----------------- The Feudal Wars lasted only 150 years. It was 150 years of turmoil and chaos. All the different kingdoms and city-states were in a state of constant war. Wars were for any reason, class, race, religion, land, and just general power. The warring kingdoms were anything from barbaric tribes to medieval kingdoms to roman like societies. As the city-states expanded, they enveloped smaller kingdoms that they defeated. One particular group that was exceptionally powerful in its conquest was the roman-like society from the coast, the furs of the Great Big Wet Thing. As the furs of the Great Big Wet Thing expanded north, they took over smaller countries, tribes, and clans. As they grew, they became a vast mixing pot of all different furs and a few humans. Generally, defeated enemies were taken as slaves, and after a time, could earn their freedom. There are several cases of former slaves moving to high places in the ever changing government. This begins the A.F. dating system. ------------------------------------------- Current year in GBWT: ?1493? A.F. Grand Towering cities, vast metropolises are the main place of living and work. Mega Towers rise above the landscape, housing entire communities. Meg-Lev trains are the transportation of choice in the cities, because cars have been banned, making room for large walk ways and public parks. Meg-Levs also connect the massive cities to each other via elevated tracks or underground tunnels. Old highways have not been widely maintained, though just before the introduction of the Meg-Levs, the countries highway system underwent a massive restoration, and they have not needed much repair. Smaller communities can be found along the highways, from small cities to much smaller towns.

The Feudal Wars and Modern GBWT.
The Feudal Wars: The beginnings of the Feudal wars is actually thought to have started with 2 groups in the central part of the Peninsula. The lupine pack of the Kardulians, a tyrannical kingdom know then for it's ruthlessness in combat, had declared war with a neighboring kingdom ruled by raccoons. The Raccoon kingdom, the Selliquins, Could not defend themselves and employed several prides of felines from the surrounding area to assist them. The war lasted only a few years, and came to a close at a stale mate. The raccoons paid the prides, and as the pride's wealth grew, false rumors of a rich central region spread. Soon, several larger factions from the coasts began to move armies into the central region. The Lupine and Raccoon kingdom were both over run by these new attackers. When the attackers discovered that other powerful groups were after the same riches, all out war broke out all over the peninsula. Through a series of spectacular generals and emperors, a growing nation in the south were able to establish a firm foot hold in the central region. They took over the land between themselves and where the original conflict started, and build up defensive lines. Through not just well run battles, but assassinations and economic trade deals, the Nation of the great Big Wet Thing was able to establish total control over the Peninsula in only 150 years.
Of Feudal era GBWT: The southern nation of GBWT had already become technologically advanced in comparison to most nations on the peninsula by the time the Feudal wars started. Running aqueducts to their cities, they were able to control disease and provide for ever increasing cities. Experts in architecture, warfare, politics, and trade, the emperors of early GBWT were able to expand their influence far and wide. With the maintaining of a large powerful army, GBWT was able to fend off attacks and force neighboring countries into submission. Countries that GBWT subdued were not often stamped out of existence however. they were most often assimilated into the empire, trade began immediately after wars were over, and it's citizens declared half citizens. These half citizens's children would then become full citizens, given all the rights of a regular GBWT citizen, and become a functioning part of the growing country. Students are pushed to learn sevral languages, citing that it helps one get along with nabors and alies, as well as helps in the buisness world.
Of architecture: GBWt had already been using 100 year old roads by the time the Feudal Wars started. With the help of the army and slaves, lasting roads were built, meny can be seen, and are still used today. Roads would also follow the aqueducts, and cities formed along the roads. With each city maintaining a militia or garrison, the aqueducts could be protected from attacks by other nations. The Arch was perfected early on, and the vaulted ceiling and dome soon followed. The discovery of concrete, made of fine sand, water, volcanic ash, and sometimes other ingredients made a water proof mixture that would dry hard as rock. This allowed for the building of permanent bridges across water ways, and solid, sound structures, the towered over the landscape. among the most famous of these structures were the Via Emporium, the main road leading to the capital. The Library of the Delta was also famous, not just for it's vast size, but for all the writings from all over the empire it contained.
The Language: The language that dominated GBWT was Paeninsulan. It was similar to Latin in meny respects, but followed a slightly different word usage structure, and used a different alphabet. The language is now referred to Old Paeninsulan, as apposed to New Paeninsulan (more like English), used today. Old Paeninsulan is still used in places around the country, and is taught in meny schools.
Attire in GBWT: while, for the most part, clothing is optional in GBWT, if one does dress, it will be in either a type of robe or toga, or very loose fitting clothing that allows fur to breath well. Humans have been mostly responsible for the loose fitting clothing, preferring it or robes due to their lack of fur, but it has caught on in fashion within the nation.

The Feral Furs: Not all furs live in the cities. Some, a very few mind you, have made their homes in the plains and forests though out the nation. Because of the greenbelt laws, they have ample space to do this. Tribes still live in a pre metal state, and for the most part, they are left alone. They are only taken note of when they encroach on established settlements, or the area they are using is marked to be turned to military or civilian use. In such case, they are removed, relocated, or in a few rare cases, re-introduced into the functioning population.

Recent changes within the nation: With the attacks on other nations, GBWT has opened its borders to the huge numbers of refugees. Most of them have made homes in the northern part of the country, where land was recently reclaimed by GBWT, having been ignored since the early 500's. Cities have been built, and a highway system has been established in that part of the country, branching off of the existing international routes. This was made possible by a long tradition of brilliantly skilled military and private engineers produced by long standing centers of learning. The refugees are living in communities much like the average sized cities of modern day, structures of steel, brick, concrete and wood. Plans are being drawn up to extend the Meg Lev system farther north. In many cases, the refugee cities were built only a few miles from existing cities, and new jobs and markets were quickly opened up in traditional GBWT fashion. Right after the attacks, there were no cities, and regular furs and humans had opened their homes, donating any spare rooms or space to the refugees. High Schools, recreation centers, convention halls, and other large buildings were employed to house and sort families until homes could be found.
Also because of the attacks, internal security has been improved. In all major cities, security forces patrol the buildings in columns of two by four, and in the streets in columns of three by six. All are equipped with tinted face plates, black helmets, black uniforms, and body armor. They carry riot gear and deterrents, such as rubber bullets, beanbag shot guns, tasers, net guns, and some teams are dispatched with shields. All are trained, and are GBWT citizens. They guard and patrol places such as large public centers and the the Meg Lev system. Smaller squads patrol the streets at night, and less traveled areas.
