Leader: Me! But I dont have much power. The head of the country has a largely supervisory role.
Political system: Informal democracy. Following a major clearout of the political and legal system some time ago, the country has eliminated multi-year debates and obscure rules. The government is completly open - except for matters of national security, all meetings are public-record. Courts and legislative section are nominally independant.
Spending: The military acts more as a research system than an army. The country has a peaceful history and is likely to continue doing so. This is due mostly to its close economic ties with the region - any war would likely trigger a region-wide recession. The rumored orbital-nukes help too. The comparatively low military funding allows excellent service in most other areas - the education system is good, crime low, the health service subsidised (we tried free: it didn't work). Still, tax is high compared to most other countries.
Species: Primarily Vyls, large purple birds, but all are welcome. A strict building code ensures comfort for all, even specifying the availability of seating for those who dont perch (Vyls do not fly). A basic portable translator device is available for visitors, production subsidised. Though not very accurate and with a tendency to misorder words, it usually gets the message across. Language is still a problem, the local language being almost impossible for any non-bird to learn in its spoken form, though written is no more difficult than any other.
Major industries: Hi-tech work largely, but also luxury goods and tourism - the country is famous for its cooking. Technology level is high, but not super-tech level. Around 2015 real-world-equivilent, with an emphesis on communications.
Allies, enemies: None yet. Not yet a recognised federation member either.
Flora, fauna, climate: Temperate, with a well-protected enviroment in most areas. This enviroment is steadily shrinking though due to population growth, now worryingly high.
Other information: We have already launched a new comsat to broadcast our TV, helpfully subtitled, from both commercial stations and the BBC-like license-funded producer. You might find a bit of cultural blending.
