Well heres the story Izzy. I wanted a 7-pin ATI s-video connector to composite TV out adapter for a very long time. SO. I searched hither and yon to try and find a shell of a mini-din connector with 7 pins that would work for what I'm trying to do.
S-video is one type of mini-din and is typically only 4 pins and a key way.
Impossible to find the 7 pin variety is.
The ATI TV out jack on my laptop has 7 pins. It has standard S-video out (which I dont think works) and 3 other pins, of which 2 are the composite signal and ground. I used to connect my lappy to a TV for a very long time by shoving tinned leads into the holes on the plug in the computer, and connecting the other end to the TV.
SO. I almost gave up on ever getting a functional and good looking adapter for my process.
Well, its funny that you're having problems with your mac keyboard, because I just destroyed mine having found a possible answer to my dilemma.
Mac keyboard connectors are 8 pin mini-din. They have pins in all the right places, except composite signal. Didn't take me long to put a bend in the sucker...
...and realize.. hey this actually fits!
So I went about marking all the colored wires to leads using my multimeter. Of the 8 wires, brown is composite ground, and yellow (how ironic) is composite signal.
Had some component composite ends laying around, so I took one out, heated up my trusty soldering iron and went to town!
This is how I feel about mac products.
A. They all must die
B. They all must be used for something actually useful.
This bastard child of my imagination is currently serving as ATI's bitch and saved me something like 20-30 bucks for a similar adapter from ATI.
WOOT WOOT
