4 months into Unity's Flames"May day may day, this is the *static* of the Red Serpent, we have taken heavy fire from... Oh Goddess... THEY'VE GOT GUNSHIPS! THEY'RE COMING ABOARD NOW! SOMEONE PLEASE H-" the transmission cut out as what sounded like an explosion before it died ripped through the ship. Above the waters was a massive 1775 foot ship, firing shells and rockets down into the smaller ship, as crews grappled what cargo they could, drawing it up into the ship before returning to the ship, the shadow of some sort of airborne beast being all the dying and stranded crew of the damaged ship could see as it turned and made a run for it, leaving the ship to sink into the seas below.
"Pathetic..." mutters Aki as he leaned back in his chair, smoking a strange looking cigarette as he watched the clouds part around the bow of the ship, the ship rising to 5 miles above the surface, heading to home with a full load of cargo they could snatch up from the container ship. "You'd think they would be able to defend against piracy..." "Well they ARE Red Serpent..." says another Fennec as she looked back at him, giving a smile before checking the ammo count. "We have 1200 containers onboard, probably food and medical supplies... I wonder what this will go for back home" she looked back at Aki. Aki smirked a bit. "We will find out soon enough..." The ship, the same color as the sky, flew a red flag behind it, as it moved at 50 knots, the crews that had hauled up the containers cracking them open and seeing what was inside, seeing that a few were grain, a few were medical supplies, and a few were vehicles... an excellent haul in their opinion. Sirens sounded off to signal the crew to go back inside as they closed the containers. The ship speeding up to 350 knots and beginning to head back to it's secret hiding place.

(OOC: I'm assuming this happens sometime after the party, however, Alaric won't likely make an appearance) Holmbergsvanian Coast Guard Cutter Robertson "Captain, we have a radio message, a mayday being broadcast on the international distress channel" Ensign Nethani looked at the radio. "Mayday, mayday, this is the *static* of the Red Serpent, we have taken heavy fire from-" The radio signal cut out. "Red Serpent sir, that NGO?" Nethani looked towards his boss, captain of the Robertson, Captain Talbresko. "Talbresko, sir, should we respond?" The timber wolf panted. This would be Nethani's first shot at an actual rescue. "Easy there, young one" Talbresko chuckled. "We should. Don't get too excited though." He looked toward his console, mumbling "Usually in situations like that, we wait for the coroners to get here from Port Penguin..." "It sounded like they were under attack, sir!" "Our cutter is well-equipped for anti-surface combat and high-tech countermeasures, Ensign." The old Red fox looked at the radar. "Ensign, tell them we're on our way." "Yes sir!" Young Nethani followed his orders, picking up the transmitter microphone. "Red Serpent vessel, this is the Holmbergsvanian Coast Guard Cutter Robertson, Hold tight, we're on our way!" Nethani's heart raced. This was just like what he saw on TV!

OOC: Yes, like 4 months after the party. Captain Walton Emrick, ANS Harbinger "Sir, there seems to be a distress signal from a ship nearby." "Wonderful. Who is it from?" I asked. "The Red Serpent." "Hmm... a battle group of ships won't look good to respond. Send the NGS Citadel." "A cruiser sir?" "It's better than nothing." "Yes sir." Captain Wilmer Rueck, NGS Citadel 40 knots is pretty good speed for a ship this size. Top of the line cruiser. And time for its first real combat test. Well, possibly. Chances are there is nothing out there now if they got attacked. If there's survivors then we will look like heroes. In a short argument I convinced Emrick to send along a couple of destroyers, the Haroma and Remnora, just in case there's enemies and to assist with rescue. Into the radio on which we received the distress signal I said, "This is Captain Rueck of the Anean Navy vessel Citadel. We're on the way to help."

Of all the craft the commonwealth could have had in they had close it was a hunter killer sub, the HMS Pike. Possibly the least suited of any of there craft other than there boomer. Though unlike a boomer they not under strict orders not to surface for any reason, it had via it's advanced sonar heard the attack. It also know what red serpent and commonwealth shipping was in the area, the navy quietly kept a log of all the ships, be them military or otherwise, sononic signature. They knew this ship was red serpent, they knew it had been attacked.
The Teuie (vulpine) sea knight deployed a radio buoy to communicate with home.
She transmitted "This is Gee Uinto kn to sea lords. We are going to the aid of the RSS* Rest, We are the closet vessel." via a burst transmission,
She got a response "You an not officially there, negative"
Her response was some what emphatic "I was not asking, this is a nuclear power hunter killer, last I check were were not meant to be anywhere. Tell the fleet we are going to aid and I might not tell your superior what you just said to me".
The submarine came to periscope depth, though it was an acronym compared to the rest of the sub the captain look threw it, the red serpents flag and the people in the water were enough.
"Put her on the roof...Send this to anyone that is listening 'Confirmed attack on the red serpent, No harbor, No mercy. Repeat No harbor, no mercy. Send all and any forces, kill them.'" the captain growled, she knew others were listening.
The she smile "'That goes for anyone and they have a bounty on their head if anyone cares'"
He didn't want people to know the nature of the craft.
The HMS Pike was not designed to work on the surface but the crew started throwing out life rafts ,they started to bind them to what they could. Being a modern sub it had no anti aircraft defense than they were taking people below as fast as they could, the only thing it could do was crash dive if came under attack. --- *Red Serpent Ship

"*high pitch whine before more static came over the channel* -llo? this is the *static* our attackers ha-*buzz* fled, we are taking on water and are evacuating whoever we can!" says the captain of the distressed Red Serpent ship, most of the crew managing to get to the escape craft before another disaster occurred: explosives detonating along the middle of the ship, splitting the already slowly sinking craft half way through the middle, and sending what containers and debris on the ship flying into the air, nailing a few of the escape boats and sending even more of the crew to a watery grave.

That was the last straw, footage was sent home via the HMS pike, the lucan council would normally be over ruled but salato was also given access to the live feed. She growled "Hunting license."
The members of the lucan council didn't even have to be asked they issued a hunting license on the captain and any of the crew involved in the attack.
A hunting license had never been issued by all of the commonwealth's monarchs before.
It was sent in the clear "The people of the commonwealth here by grant asylum and/or pardon for all crimes for those that find and bring the heads of all of those who commanded this attack, with indisputably evidence that of their guilt. No matter the crimes they have committed. All title and wealth may be retained along with a reward of seven million meeps. We will also grant them and their family a new identity and life." the message read.
"We ask all other peoples to offer the same for those that commanded this raid or at least make the license known to those kind that might know of these people and wish not to be protected for crimes they may have committed." Was a second message.

Captain Wilmer Rueck, NGS Citadel As we arrived, I saw a submarine near the ship. That doesn't look good. But, with the rafts and all, it seems like a rescue of sorts as well. That does look good, though staged. We sent our own boats over in order to save as many as possible. If they try to stop us, the Anean flag is clearly visible and if they have sense they will know we are just trying to help. Still, I kept one of the turrets pointed at the submarine, just in case it tries to do anything. I said into our radio, "This is the Citadel, I recommend that we bring the fleet in. This might get messy." "Negative. We are continuing cruise into the strait." "I am going to need assistance treating the wounded. Is the Haroma Salvation in orbit? If so, I recommend getting shuttles ready to receive and transport wounded." There was a long silence. "Yes, it's in orbit. We're moving into position around the wreck. Stay vigilant until our arrival. There will be a few shuttles en route to help." I took out a megaphone and walked out on deck. I am pretty sure that anyone on top of the submarine will hear this. I said, "Attention submarine, this is the NGS Citadel. We are with the Anean Naval Defense Force and here to assist. There are shuttles en route to evacuation wounded to a hospital ship in orbit. Do you read or understand?"

Oddly for some odd reason a megaphone not carried on the sub, perhaps them being loud and all.
Gee Uinto kn large canine ears heard loud and clear, but there was no way she could shout loud enough to be heard as she stood on the short conning tower. She shouted below, raise periscope. The periscope rose to several meters above her and shouted "Send this in morse..'This is the HMS Pike of the commonwealth fleet stop. Rendering aid stop. Assistance most welcome stop. Have many cases of hypothermia and trauma victims on-board stop. Medical facilities and personnel over whelmed stop,' keep sending until we get a response, surly someone over there will know it."
Though it was an obsolete tech all commonwealth subs had a signaling lamp atop their periscopes, like bayonets they were an anachronism but useful. It was the quickest way to respond and had the advantage of not giving away the position of the sub in a way a radio transmission would.
The signal lamp started blinking.
Uinto's ex-o said "Do you think they will understand they are not from round here." Uinto said "If they have a communications officer worth their salt they will, they have been here long enough to know that morse is the last resort signaling system. Well that or they could just look up what is likely to be used when a lamp starts blinking."

Captain Wilmer Rueck "What the HELL is that FLASHING for?" I asked. "Morse code sir." One of the sailors said. He's my communications officer and apparently used to be in the US Navy doing the same thing. "What the fuck is that?" "It's an Earth thing. Uh... it's a message from the sub I think. "It reads ''This is the HMS Pike of the commonwealth fleet stop. Rendering aid stop. Assistance most welcome stop. Have many cases of hypothermia and trauma victims on-board stop. Medical facilities and personnel over whelmed stop,'" "What's with all the stops? Do they want us to stop helping?" "No sir, that's like a period in a sentence." "I see. Well..." I picked up my megaphone and said into it, "I will be coming over to ease communications issues. Just so you're aware, the Anean 1st Fleet will be arriving shortly." Already, a pair of 50 Shuttles arrived from the Trotia. One of them landed... well, hovered... over the water with the back partially submerged. Probably to pick up anyone in the water. The other lowered a ramp onto the top of the submarine and several medics came out.

Uinto heard the message "she shouted below send this 'Don't bring them here stop. Tell them to get the bastards that did this stop'"
The crew were worried as the sub was not that stable on the surface with all it's tanks blown. The ex-o shouted "Flood tanks one eight and sixteen." below into the open hatch of the conning tower and the sub sunk a little in the water giving it a little more stability. The surface was not a good place for the sub, it wasn't designed to be there.
Uinto was a little worry about having civilians on board he highly classified sub and foreigners doubly so, but needs be and there was nothing that classified in the sections where they had taken the worst viable cases. The non-viable cases where being talked to by the ship's wise woman* she had alread given the last incantation to more people than she hoped to have done in her life time. Most of the volunteers were young and were just trying to make the world a nicer place. Space on the life rafts was at a premium and what little space the sub offered meant that the dead simply had to be dropped overboard.
It was brutal but they could honer the dead or save the living and these were red serpent people, she knew they would not want it any other way.

Captain Wilmer Rueck Another translation from my officer. Over my megaphone, I said, "Trust me, the planes are searching. As soon as they are found, we will go after them. Until then, they will be on scene here in case they decide to turn around and try to kill off the last survivors. "If they are found, the Harbinger will go after them. We may not be quite as vengeful in this case as compared to you all, but it's still a war crime in the Empire." Over our radio, I heard, "Uh, this is the NGS Grodania, I am looking at an unknown submarine near you Citadel. Should I engage?" I picked it up and said, "Negative. Do not engage. That's a Commonwealth submarine. There seems to have been an attack on an unarmed vessel. There's wounded and such. Working to evacuate them all." "Should we surface?" "That's completely up to you. I recommend against it, considering your payload, but it could be useful as a medical bay of sorts considering the flat top." "Roger, surfacing." Just to the Commonwealth sub's left the massive 1000' black hull and comm tower of the Grodania surfaced. 150 SLBMs are on that, but no one needs to know it. It's not technically assigned to any fleet for obvious reasons and only a handful of people are aware of what it is. IX of course being one of them. Over my megaphone, I said, "That's one of ours. We'll be using the large flat top as a medical area to stabilize for evacuation to orbit."

Holmbergsvanian Coast Guard Cutter Robertson The Robertson steamed into the area, looking for survivors. Instead we saw Anean shuttles doing our work for us. "Holmbergsvanian Coast Guard Cutter Robertson to all ships in the area, we're... not sure we can do anything" Ensign Nethani sighed. He missed his chance. There wouldn't be action it seemed, looks like Anea got here first. Captain Talbresko stood there shaking his head. "Damn Aneans... always getting there first" Talbresko muttered. Suddenly a call came over the intercom. "Bridge, We have a new radar contact, designated Sierra Three" Talbresko shook himself awake. "You sure it isn't a bird, Radar?" "Negative sir, signature matches a Commonwealth submarine" "Commonwealth? What are they doing this far north?" Nethani was shocked. "Confidence?" "High sir" "Mark track as neutral, do NOT engage unless they do. Nethani! Get me Naval Command on the horn" "Yes sir" Nethani went to adjusting his radio dials. "Bridge, CIC, New contacts, We can't count them, sir, there's too many! One's pretty damned huge" "I'm betting that's Anea, mark those tracks as friendly. Nethani! After you're done, call Holmbergsvania Intelligence, I want to know why both Anea and Cal send naval vessels, especially submarines, to a mayday call." Talbresko looked out over the sea. "Yes, sir" Nethani nodded excitedly.

Uinto had become aware of excited voices from below the, HMS Pike had, had it's active sonar running so had 'seen' the Grodania coming. They were excited because the Grodania was the reason they were this far north, they had been trying to find the ASE boomer. Satellite re-con had seen it launch some time back and like all sane navies the commonwealth's liked to know where everyone else's boomers were. Well that an having a hunter killer tracking them meant that if things got messy they could prevent a launch. They had not crash dived when they detected it for two reasons, one, they were rendering aid and, two, boomers rarely if ever engaged other subs if they were not under attack. The second reason was an extrapolation from their own naval doctrine and the sonar furs were looking for an escorting hunter killer. The commonwealth omega class boomers always traveled with a hunter killer escort, only the sea knight of which had any idea where they were.
Uinto couldn't help by smile at the irony of the situation, the craft that they had been hunting for months popping up next to them. The really bugging thing was once this was over and she re-submerged she knew the Grodania would be tracking them so they would have to leave it's area and lose it again. That was the thing about submarine warfare in peace time, if you were seen you had to pretend you were 'just passing by'. She was sure the captain of the Grodania would know why they were they were there but she knew submariners were of a different breed from normal people. They had more in common than they had differences, though boomer crews were an elite sub set of them.
The HMS Pike was likely to be the last vessel to detect the Holmbergsvanian vessel as it had no radar. The Pike was not designed to be on the surface so lacked air defense and other things, it had to depend upon on it's 'ears' and very accurate maps to operate.
As communication had been established with the ASE ship Uinto ordered the periscope turned to the Holmbergsvanian ship she sent in morse, using the signaling light, as the Pike did not use radio other than via burst encrypted transmissions.
'We are the HMS Pike of the commonwealth fleet Stop Rendering aid Stop All hands needed Stop Air defense needed Stop People still in water Stop Small craft needed to find survivers Stop What is the weather report Stop Supplies needed Stop' The message kept repeating.
The Pike's crew was improvising and had lashed together some life rafts to form a bridge to the Grodania to take the walking wounded. It was ironic that civilians were being sent over as, like every military, the commonwealth's would love to see inside the boomer. No doubt the other navies here would love to see inside the Pike, and no doubt all of the other navies knew that was not about to happen.
Uinto was handed a bit of paper she read it and her ears and tail shot up in shock, she said "In the goddesses name, they are taking this seriously"
She told there Ex-O "Tell them the Peregrine, Osprey, White and Buzzard battle groups are moving to the area to hunt down these pirates. The Hooded, Raven, Jackdaw and Rook are also making for this area. The Bolt, Spear and Arrow destroyer squadrons are on route....and the Wind group....holy shit a third of the commonwealth's navy high seas fleet is on route."
Uinto boggled the commonwealth had never moved a fleet this size before into on area.

Captain Walton Emrick, ANS Harbinger My communications officer said, "Sir, orders from the Emperor. We're to pull out of the area. Drop all injured in the water was added on as well." "Why?" I asked. "It doesn't say exactly, but he says that this could be a national security issue." I hate to follow this order. I got on the radio to the rest of the fleet. "Emperor's orders. We're to return home ASAP." Captain Wilmer Rueck, NGS Citadel This one will be hard to explain. Already, even with people on top, the Grodania was heading under again. Shuttles were pulling back to the Trotia. This will be a wonderful mess. You know, I'm not even going to explain it. It's pretty obvious what's going on. "Take us out of here." "Yes sir."

OOC: This is Megamantics Corporation "intervening" Admiral Burton Shakir, MPS Megamantics (Xaimoungkhoun Class Battleship)
CEO's Orders: Sink the Cali submarine, kill survivors, get the hell out. Anean ships are ordered to pursue to make it look legitimate.
The CEO is a crazy bastard sometimes, but it works. The message arrived via tachyon comms in some highly encrypted format, to prevent all but the most advanced cryptographer - all of which are on Megamantics's payroll. Even then it was bounced off several relays across Anean space.
Simple enough instructions, but this must be flawlessly executed. We're flying the Megamantics flag, so that should cause backlash against the Empire, and yet Megamantics is a PMC that is, as I am sure the Emperor would say, "prone to rogue elements".
Should work.
The last of the 1st Fleet ships headed off. We, of course, pulled up alongside the Cali submarine, lowered the guns, and fired all ten 32" guns at near point blank range.
Meanwhile the gatling guns and other things generally used for AA opened fire on the water and any survivors.
As expected, an Anean cruiser turned toward us as soon as we fired. Perfect.
