Okiedokey, there are a lot of MT threads at the moment. Mine is coming to a close, as is Redstar. Arrival is more or less finished, according to Anea.
Time to plan an FT one so all these spehss alienz don't raygun blast us.
This is going to be an interest/sign up thread for an alternate future science fiction thread series.
Basically, the Earth got omnomed by the sun, it ended in nuclear war, but before that, everyone went into international efforts to build ships to leave offworld. They end up getting knocked by an unknown force into a galaxy waaaay out of the way, outside of the reach of all the 'powers', leaving them all alone.
Saboteurs and rivalries threaten the colony ships, even before they have left their motherworld, and this first installment would concern those fateful days during the final construction, the exodus, and flight of these ships as they travel to their 'promised land' in an unknown galaxy, setting the first colonies on virgin worlds.
Civil war, mishaps, malfunctions, all of these threaten the new pioneers. So, who wants to join? Any thoughts? Ideas? Also log your factions here. Me and Aluez will post some NPC badguy ones so we'll know where the saboteurs come from XD
There are two systems in this new area, both inside a dark matter cloud of sorts, further isolating them from the universe.
One is the dying, but still going red star system containing the planet New Caldova, a barren, desert world above the surface that holds a secret underworld, filled with oceans, jungles, and various subterranean wonders, two gas giants, and an asteroid belt with seven asteroid families.
Caldova and the other system are on opposite sides of this galaxy from each other, however, so keep that in mind.
The other is a binary system with three 'terran' planets: New Alenia (Five moons, two belts), Helian (two moons, no asteroid rings/belts), and Hyperium (Fourth from the sun, three moons, asteroid belt around it), three gas giants, and two massive gas giants that could turn into protostars at any moment, bringing 'comet storms' in their wake. For the sake of a little bit of sanity asteroid belts, rings, and the moons around gas giants, and rings, and comets, are, well, pretty numerous, so we're not going to name them all and just have you pick which ones in the general direction your colonizing, and you and whoever decides to be your neighbor can beat it out.
There is also a very large star (like Betelgeuse, but much bigger, Hypergiant) relatively close to the Hyperium area. It has a single planet, which is pretty much unliveable save near the core, and the night side is only safe temporarily.
FTL comms IS possible, but if you're wanting to talk to someone in Andromeda or the Milky Way, expect a several century wait time. (Inter-Dimensional comms might shorten it to a few months, but that's still a hella lag.)

Description: The Confederacy of Aatuylva experienced several upheavals prior to the Exodus, a near civil war and several commanders going rogue and attacking surrounding nations 'for the greatest good.' There was one massive ship, the supplies already having been sent into space, and the resources to completely stock it and to ensure survival were stolen when they couldn't be manufactured, and some theorize that Aatuylva was one of the nations responsible for the 'Final Death.' The massive ship, originally named Shtela Gudagh, or Security in Power, was armed and powered by nearly the entire strategic capabilities of the nation. Intended to be a generation ship, it suffered a horrible fracturing of leadership as the military and the various para-military organizations in the government each tried to seize control.
Eventually a full scale war broke out over control of the power sources of the ship, with the gov't loyalists on one side and the military elite on the other. Thankfully, the leaders of both sides came to an agreement before any real damage was done.
The remains of the Confederacy, in their now gutted ship, seek to make a decent living, and to exact vengeance upon the traitors.
The Sifisian Stratocracy, as the traitors began to call themselves, stole several parts and pods from the ship, and left for the asteroid belts, with dark intentions in mind for the rest of their kin.

The Rising Sun relies on automation and gene banks, essentially a seed ship rather than an ark.
