There was some polite applause from the reporters after Du Pont finished, then they all seemed to stand as one, flashing cameras and asking questions. "Now now there'll be time for that later. Go on. Shoo." The cameras were cut at the Governor's commands as he had the guards move the press out into a separate room, probably to have someone else answer their questions. "Now, then. Will you be establishing an embassy in Aatuylva? Or would you rather us send a delegate to your homeland? Don't worry about the details I'll have my secretary type something up and send it to you..Also, are you planning on staying long? We can let you use one of the guest rooms of the palace if you wish." =Max du Pont, "Marginal Duties" Minister="Personally, I think it would be more beneficall if you sent a delegate to our nation, as I will soon have to depart. I apologize for this. On the other hand, I will still be in the region and will be able to be contacted should any issue arose. Be it diplomatic advice or our stance on a foreing affair, I am always ready to help. Now if you excuse me, we are to leave." And with that, he ordered the Main Offiecer and it's crew to get ready to carry the Translation Computer back.

Tie smiled "I can't see there being any issue on our side to normalizing relations with your people and...well our requirements for an embassy is minimal. A reasonibly sized town house or similar is usually enough."
Sie laughed "We are not the kind of people that feel the need to deploy many military personnel in them, usually just a couple, or so, honour guards. We kinda trust that the host nation will keep us safe, and well there is little point in having a large force as, well if the host nation feels the need to raid the place...Well they will by default be able to call on far more forces that you can ever have in there.
Also as we are guest, we don't like it to look like we don't trust the host nation and well maintaining large embassies is expensive. No offence intended, well that and we prefer to not seem to aggressive."
Tie grinned "Having a heaverly protected and armed embassy tends to lead people to think you are, well that or obsessively military or even paranoid."
Sie said suddenly "Consulates! Sorry before I forget, would it be possible for us to set up a consulate in you business, come shopping area? Well and in other major cities?"
Tie said quietly "Our consulates are kind of branch offices for our embassy and they deal with the little things. You know people wanting information, dealing with visas, dealing with local businesses that might be interesting in exporting things, you know the day to day stuff that is not exactly of national interest.
We tend to staff them locally except for the consul them self and a sectary. Basically they are there to make it easy for normal people to do there business that concerns us. Heck most of them double as tourist come business information centres for those interested in...or give a hand if some one wants information about the commonwealth for school projects and the like."
They have two advantages. One going to a consulate is more far easier than an embassy as they don't tend to have half the security and they tend to be in easier locations. Second, they mean that the embassy can be kept for diplomatic tasks only, so there are less people to check."

I will see it turn into reality, I hope." Replied enthusiasthed Drae Selek. "Mmm... Can I haz drink?" asked Jake.

Sie smiled, her tail twitch "I hope so too, if you can get some possible location and costs I will send it back home and let the paper pushers start the process. Now food?"
Tie laughed a little "I think the drinking laws here are a little stricter than we are used to.
Back home it is quite normal for quite young children to be given watered down wine with a meal and by your age most people have a drink with a meal."

Please yourself." Said the minister, pointing at the place they were standing. From the city's center, it could be seen that several restaurants, as well as fast-food chains had set up in the comercial district of the city. "Aww..." Replied Jake. He would have to wait until he was 18.

Sie said quietly "Drae we are strangers in a strange land, our money will not work here. We carry a little gold but I doubt that will be allowed. The buses can take us back to our craft. We would rather that you took us somewhere and we can settle up later if that is an issue."
Sie continued "If you wish to trade in the wider world we can help you float you currency as your money has to have a value to other trading nations. The meep is fast becoming a reserve currency, much to our annoyance. We have been trying to drop it's value for some time but others keep buying it. Fully a third of our currency is owned by foreigners as it is more stable than their own. "
Tie smiled at jake "Hey study and well you might get into one of our unis. Then you will get more than one drink. "
She whispered with a smile "We treat the bright very well" putting her arm on his shoulder.

But I do not want to force my guests to eat something they do not want to. We never do that here." Replied a distracted Drae Selek.

Sie smiled a little "Sorry I miss-understood. Sorry"
She smiled "Well we have fairly varied tastes, we would like to try some of your local delicacies. If that is possible?"
She said in leefin "Put the poor child down, you don't know where he has been."
Tie smiled and let Jake go.

A name more appropiated for a convention of intellectuals if you ask me, but it is a fine place to eat. Not too 'costly' to be for the wealth-only, but not too cheap to be affordable to everyone on a daily basis." Replied the minister, and motioned to be followed. Jake started to follow but keept thinking. 'I can haz need drink...' What a simplistic and annoying thought.

The pair of leefin's followed the minister, Sie tipped her head slightly saying "Sounds good."
Tie smiled at Jake then turned her attention to the minister.
"To money, we do not much of your currency, does it float like ours...or is it tied to a commodity like metals, stones, some thing that has intrinsic value?
Just if it is the former we can help, the latter we can help to some degree and having a currency that can be exchanged is helpful, to say the least, for trade. Either way we can quietly start to place your currency on the money markets so you know what Centralis is worth vs the meep, the gerbil and the rest." she said as her tail twitched. "It always helps to know what you have in your back pocket.
We are in the odd position that our currency is becoming a reserve currency as it remains stable and strong. This is not as helpful as you would think and well our central bank is having trouble controlling the currency. We keep treing to devalue it, but other people keep buying it so we can't."
Sie shrugged "That is true, but our internal matters are not your concerns, how ever the banks and other financial institution of the commonwealth can help. If you wish to enter onto the international markets in a controlled manner."

Post by The Anean Star Empire on Dec 13, 2010 3:29:33 GMT -5
OOC: This is mostly to give an idea of the conversation between Masako and IX after being walked out on. I only just thought about doing this.
---
General IX, ANS Harbinger, several hours after leaving Centraliza
I lit another cigar. I swear, this is like my 8th one. Plus that bottle of Talonian Liquor was mostly drunk by me. Masako had a little bit. I have no idea what to do with this situation... and I think I am pretty damn drunk already.
Masako said, "Hey, unlike the Cali, he gave us a reason."
"But Anean traditions says that they would be enemies now."
"To hell with tradition! IX, you saw what happened last time with the Cali. You threatened to sink their ships, sat down with someone, and then fixed it more or less. They weren't as bad as you thought they were."
"I guess you're right. But no, they just came out of a revolution! Damn it that's a risk factor there! What if they suddenly try to force their ideology on the colony? What if they attack?"
"There are a lot of what ifs, but calm down. If we declare them enemies, even though it won't really matter because, let's face it, they are an insignificant country, then it makes us look bad... well... worse."
"Well what's another blemish on our already dirty record? Damn it, they are ideologically enemies!"
She stood from her seat. "I will not allow you to do it."
I was sitting right next to her instead of behind my desk. I got up and smacked her. "You don't tell me what to d-"
That's when she tackled me.
Several Minutes Later
Well she won the fight. I expected as much though. I had a towel up against my head though. She managed to cut me across the forehead and now I am bleeding. That'll be a hell of a scar.
"I'm sorry." I said. "It was uncalled for."
"I'm sorry too. So what are you going to do?"
"Cut diplomatic communications. I don't want to speak with them. However, I won't add on the enemy of the empire."
"That works with me. Plus it doesn't have to be known to anyone outside the colony."
"We should probably go get some sleep. We got quite a trip back to the colony."
"I agree."
She left me in my office. I went over the bed in the corner and laid on that. It works for a short rest I guess.

"Well, what do you make of them?"
"A touch odd, but well-meaning. It wouldn't hurt to open an embassy, after all, if we can still keep diplomatic lines with the Cali, then we can certainly keep lines open with the Centralizans. Send out a communique to them. I'll write it up."
"As you wish Governor."
--------------------------------------------
To: Marginal Duties Minister Max du Pont People's Republic of Centraliza
From: Governor Eric Dunsel City-State of Accallia, Kingdom of Accallia The Confederacy of Aatuylva
By the time you arrive home this should be awaiting in your mailbox, I should hope. I always prefer the old fashioned methods of communication. Much more personal. Anyway, the Confederacy as a whole is interested in opening full dialogue and discussing the possibilities of trade between our peoples. Therefore, I am inquiring how your country handles embassies, as we can send a delegation and staffers as soon as is convenient, provided that there is room to house them. Please respond when conveniently available.
Indubitably yours,
Eric Dunsel

OOC: For the purposes of IC, I guess we can agree that ambassies and stuff have been set, 'basic' diplomatic relations stablished and you now know "who we are". Thus I think we can lock this thread...
