So yeah... hmm...
How about everybody take a chill pill for the time being. Bitching around on the internet is about as useful as slamming your head into the wall. Things get messy and you might end up unconscious after doing it long enough.
I don't much care about the etiquette of autojoins.
I also don't much care about claims or sillyness that happens in the channel as far as RP claims and actions go as no one is obligated to take it as Fur Fed canon. Stop being up in arms over what people say there as it doesn't matter.
If the IRC channel is going to cause this much angst, then maybe we shouldn't be using it. Sure it can be useful, but to have us at each others throats for really kind of retarded stuff is counter productive. We need more cooperation to make this a really great cooperative story telling place. Else its just people being wonky and self absorbed. And being pissy about this or that isn't helping.
So the main usefullness of the IRC is to make sure people are not super trolls before they join our community. Anyone is free to poke people on there, and anyone is free to make an account. In the end I'm the arbiter of whom gets approved for an account. Folks watching in IRC can give recommendations for or against folks, but they don't have the final say.
But if IRC is outliving its usefulness, we'll need an alternative path. As it is, my account is unable to wield the full ban hammer. So a bad apple can cause havoc here if they get past my own review of their account (and yes I do do some research of my own when people sign up). So there are plans a foot to fix this problem. We don't know exactly our chances, as part of it relies on getting in touch with our uber admin, but some sort of change will likely happen before to long.
FYI: Dealing with this drama when I'm trying to get my PhD thesis out the door is not my idea of a good time. Why can't people deal with their own interpersonal issues without making it an issue for everybody?
Also, Aatu, please stop name dropping me.
Finally...
Pic and Aatu, I don't want you communicating for the next week. You're just pissing each other off right now and that's not healthy. If you're both in the IRC, ignore each other. When you've both had time to cool off and reflect on how silly this all is, then maybe talk and apologize for being angry for no good reason.
