Political parties are not outlawed, however they are unable to get donations from the currently outlawed business sector. the people of Holmbergsvania love and enjoy their rights, but most aspects of 'business' are controlled by the government.

Military Strengths:
Strong navy, existing to defend Holmbergsvanian trade interests both domestically and internationally.
Technological Level: Currently, the Aegis missile system and
Phalanx missile-defense system are in use on surface vessels while nuclear powered submarines and aircraft carriers are also in use. Several other advancements also exist.
Special Forces: Special Forces groups, ranging from Rangers to Green Berets to Naval and Marine Corps special forces are some of the most effective forces in the world, dispatched all over the region to areas where they are needed.
Military Weaknesses:
Ground forces use a 'homogeneous weapons system,' due to no competition from the private sector, Holmbergsvanian weapons development is controlled directly by the government.
The military is highly, highly expensive. National Defense spending is high in comparison to other programs such as law and order and social equality. While the military has been criticized for this, the soldiers are enjoying their high pay and effective weapon systems.
The Holmbergsvanian Navy operates out of only one port that has been dedicated to naval operations, Port Penguin Naval Base. While expansive, this is the only port from which ships are constructed, drydocked for repairs, and upgraded. This leads to a massive vulnerability problem,and increased repair, refit, and construction times for naval vessels. Voters have yet to approve construction of new naval bases, as it would mean they would possibly have to pay more taxes.

2000 BCE: First evidence of feudal 'lords' defending 'states' based around strange mounds, believed to be for burial purposes. Tools and soil samples taken and uncovered in these areas reveal that these were places where the soil was once most fertile. Writing found in a hiroglyphic form
500 BCE: Stone structures, believed to be manors, are constructed around Holmbergsvania. Many of these are in strange locations, such as the foothills of the mountain range, and deep in the forests. Writing in words, instead of symbols, begins.
257 BCE: Birth of Holmberg I on Holmberg Family Estate, according to writings, near Mount Farklow.
241 BCE: Holmberg Family estate destroyed by rival families angry at the family's multiple successful harvests, according to scrolls found in another manor near Mount Farklow. Holmberg I flees to Port Ostiania (Modern-day Port Penguin)

229 BCE: War Of The Lords begins: War between Holmberg-allied lords and independent lords and states opposing unification.

The Council assumes control of Holmbergsvania as Holmberg's son, Holmberg II, is not born yet.

191 BCE: Holmberg II reportedly kidnapped. Council takes permanent control of Holmbergsvania, beginning 40 years of oppressive rule.
151 BCE: Holmberg II returns, at the head of a massive invading army formed from states and lords beyond Holmbergsvania's mountain ranges.

Holmbergsvania is generally a peaceful non-warmongering nation, and is on good terms with most nations in the northern half of the world. The southern half of the world however is viewed with a sense of criticism, possibly a side-effect to having been a part of Northern politics for too long. Having control of one of the straits into the Sea of Forr, Holmbergsvania wields a large amount of power in international affairs, and especially the international economy. Port Penguin is situated at the 'chokepoint' in question, and is a major repair and refueling stop for ships travelling to the Sea of Forr.
-Three interesting facts-
Holmbergsvania is host to an increasing number of illegal races, speeders are one of the main concerns to travelers on Holmbergsvania's road network, and local municipalities and county sheriffs are taking notice. Regardless, races still continue, and it is rumored that the Prince has partaken in a few of them, unbeknownst to law enforcement officials.
Holmbergsvania is currently developing a chemical laser system to act as a long-distance anti air defense. Project Mordred, as it is known as, is based off an earlier project codenamed "Excalibur," whose plans fell into the hands of the Holmbergsvanian military some time ago. The weapon's effective range is 60 miles, but range is being extended pending the deployment of specialized mirrors to cover all of Holmbergsvania's territory. The weapon is strictly anti-aircraft.
Holmbergsvania's space program is attempting to launch missions to the moon, yet whenever a launch is attempted, some random skeptic claims a coke bottle randomly is kicked into view, somehow proving that the launch is all computer-generated graphics. Holmbergsvania's space agency has... No comment.
