I'm just hoping I have a home left to go home to, I haven't heard from my family since the morning before the hurricane hit and we live on the north shore near Hammond, about half an hour north-east of New Orleans, which many of you know is now officialy a dead city, ordered to be abandoned, which still is hard to grasp, abandoning a large, American city because it's now underwater. I flew into there less than 2 weeks ago and used to go there often, and my sister was going to seminary there as well, but now it's gone along with all the people who are now having to live somewhere else for a few months if they even have anything left to go back to because almost all of the buisnesses are ruined and tourist sites destroyed.

I finaly heard from and saw my family today, my mom, sister, and two little brothers are heading north to stay with relatives while my father is staying home at the camp we live and work at to guard it from looters. From all I heard it's far worse than I thought, Slidell, another large city nearby is virtualy gone, the huge, old oak trees all around our house all fell, every one missing our house they were in at the time (God's protection or mere luck you decide) power will be out for at least 6-8 weeks, sewage lines are all destroyed, power lines are all destroyed, phone lines are all gone, there is no outside water coming in, the huge high ropes course (which we just rebuilt) which is the main off-season draw for our camp is destroyed, we also lost all the churches in New Orleans of course that we got almost half the funding for the camp and we have little left to offer and there is no help coming for our little, out of the way, camp so it looks like my family could be out of a job and home soon. Kinda weird, my mom coming up to me and telling me I have to be totaly self-supporting now and they may need to borrow money from me if they do loose their job.

I'm glad to hear that everything is alright with your family. And i know, it's really bad. Most pleople here in ohio are having a hard time getting the whole view of the situation, if not trying to ignore it all together. I however am watching every new report i can and digging for any new information comeing out of what was once N.O. I would be at the nearest blood bank right now makeing donations if i weren't sick.
Perhaps another thread should be devoted to this topic....

Agreed, I'll start another thread after I finish this note to say that I'm now in New Hampshire in once pice. In normal circumstances I would probably complain about this that or the other thing about my trip, but really from what I've been seeing on the news I have no place to talk about discomfort.

Wow...okay. Yes, I realise I'm a bit late in reading this but I was trying to catch up again after Feral!. That was really surreal getting out of Algonquin park after having a great weekend and to hear about all the death the destruction that had happened on our last couple of full days.
I am very glad to hear everyone made it through safely, Ciata, as well as a lack of major structural damage to the building. I'll call it luck but I'm aware it may have been something else.
I suppose since the initial disaster is over I shall wish you and yours intelligence. I will also wish you luck though yours may have already been pushed as it is. I do hope noone looses their job through no fault of their own, especially after a disaster like this.

Surprise! I'm moving so my access will be wonky. And then I'm going to Antrocon, so my access will be completely gone save the internet room (but I'm not one to hang out there constantly, tis too much to do!) so the next few days I might not be on very much, and then from the 14-19 I'll be basically out of communications. Hold down the fort!

Appologies all, school things have completely whipped out my energy reserves of late. Give me a week to get my things in order and to get my head on straight.

As a note, I will not be posting anything until the end of school. School ends in two weeks, so at that point I will be able to devout my full attention to this. I'll still be keeping up, however.

Sorry for the short notice, but I'll be out all weekend. I'll catch up on posts early next weekend if I can as next week should be less crazy for me.
